Treo 650 Applications Screenshots
As more and more people should be aware by now, Treonauts are quite a resourceful bunch... The latest salvo is a developer Treonaut who grabbed some screenshots below of the new applications suite on the Treo 650 while playing around with its SDK.

Powering the Treo 650 for the first time initially brings up the familiar Touchscreen app. This is followed by the Date & Time setup (in this case network set). All set in a couple of minutes the Treo 650 is ready to go.

As previously reviewed, the new Phone app provides some additional useful information on screen. You can see that in this case there is 1 new email and that there are no upcoming events. I had also previously missed that there is now a Voice Mail icon overlaid on the #1 button on the Dial Pad.
Using the NavButton Down brings up the first page of the Favorites menu which is in this case fully populated. There are 14 favorite slots per page spread across 5 pages for a total of 70 favorites. The great thing is that you can now use the favorites to not only launch any application but you can also program certain actions such as a pre-adressed email or SMS to speed your communication with a select group of contacts for example.
You can also select to have from 1 to 7 lines of favourites on the Phone screen. If you decide to select 7 lines then you will obviously not have the Dial Pad but you can bring this up in an instant by pressing any of the number dial buttons on the keypad.
Furthermore, although this is not shown you can also replace the Dial Pad with a background picture selected from your phone or SD card.
One of my disappointments continues to be the lack of color customization in the Contacts view. For example I would not mind being able to assign a unique color to each of my Contacts categories. Considering the high resolution color screen I don't understand why we're still restricted to a two color display in this view.

The various applications and preferences. Importantly for many Treonauts the Treo 650 will now support voice dialling. One application will come bundled on the phone and will be available to use only with a Bluetooth headset while non-BT support for voice dialling will be provided via a 3rd party application by VoiceSignal (a 30 day free evaluation will come on the Treo 650 installation CD).

As I've mentioned previously I believe that the Messaging app found on the Treo 650 is one of the best that can be found on any phone. It is not only incredibly simple to use but now comes enhanced by the ability to enclose pictures and voice memos as part of an MMS message. I also find the folder structure of the Messaging application which groups messages as conversations around each relevant contact to be one of its killer features.

The Calendar now sports four main views (bottom left squares) with a very useful Today view and the familiar day, week, month. There is also now the ability to categorise a new event directly on the day view and to assign a unique color to each such category.
However, I have been using an excellent donation-ware app by Jonas Lindstedt called 'Today' which in my opinion should have been a point of reference for palmOne's design. Perhaps the company could have been better served by buying this application from the developer and incorporating it as the new standard Today view on the Treo 650. Here again it appears that some of the best ideas and executions can sometimes be found at the periphery and not the center...

The redesigned combo camera/camcorder application really is a huge improvement on the Treo 600 (which for a start does not have a camcorder functionality...). The app is fully supported by the NavButton and point/shoot/send has now become child's play. You'll also agree that the new interface is rather more pleasing than our previous one...

The long awaited Bluetooth compatibility for our Treo finally arrives... We'll now be able to Hotsync wirelessly via BT, use a cable-free headset and keyboard among many other BT accessories. As I reported earlier, I set up a Jabra headset in less than 5 minutes while testing the Treo 650 and I envisage that all other BT related setups will be as easy to setup as this.

A few more applications that 'shine' thanks to the bright high resolution new display on the Treo 650. Displayed here are Bob's Alarm, Bob's Calc and WorldMate Pro (the basic version comes bundled).

At Work, at Home, at Play Treonauts have more fun...
