Blackberry Connect Now in Final Beta!
Finally! Like many I was beginning to think that Blackberry Connect on our Treo was nothing more that bad hype but now I can tell you that it's real, that it's in final beta (still no ETA for full release) and that it looks pretty cool from the little time that I had to play around with it. I hope to provide you with an update on this a litlle later though...

Treonauts can't wait to BB Connect...
Our 3GSM coverage is made possible thanks to the kind support of MMPlayer, SplashData and Pocket Tunes.

The PalmSource web site now has documentation regarding Blackberry Connect. Does this mean that the program is now available and does anyone know how much?
Interesting. Looks like email only with no sync to any other aspects (calendar, contacts, etc)
Hi,
Do anyone know or heard when the BlackBerry Connect software will be available!!
Regards,
Alex
Please tell me soon!
Im sick of this 7100t but addicted to its email.
I'll be buying new devices for our sales department NEXT WEEK. Blackberries/PPC devices if there's no bberry client for the Treo 650 announced by then as we have both BB servers and a Juniper SSL VPN...I guess the 7100 isn't that ugly!
Any news on when this might be available. Will it work on a Treo 600 or just the 650
Any news on when blackberry connectors will be available for Treo 650 ? Will it be released by all carriers at the same time ? Sprint is telling me mid-summer now...
Blatant plug - feel free to ignore if offended :)
For the equivalent Notes community out there, a product has existed focussed on YOUR requirements.
1.Pushed data via GPRS/CDMA/UMTS - get that 'information when it happens' experience.
2.Data integrity - by using a replication model, say goodbye to duplicates when trying a 3 way sync.
4.A user experience that compares to your desktop experience, with no compromise.
3.Client only pricing - pay per user however many devices you own.wireless or stand-alone
4.Cost effective - No NOC/RIM Relay, no monthly service charge - pay for the device & the data you use.
Feel free to try it at http://www.commontime.com
or drop me a mail - Im a techie.

Anyone have a link or could possibly email me the BETA version of Blackberry Connect software? I currently own a Treo 600 through my T-Mobile service and already have Blackberry service setup.
Thanks!
I understand that this is a treo forum but I have been following this thread based on the blackberry connect content. In addition to supporting treo users, I am also struggling to get several sony ericsson 910's into service with blackberry connect and getting nowhere - anybody addressed this?

I would be very interested in using the beta version of the BB connect. Anyone know where I could get a copy or a link? I currently have a BB account. Need to test on a Treo 650.
thx
If someone has a functional beta for the Treo 650, I will PAY for it. Please drop me an e-mail.
Daniel
Please, I would also love a copy of the blackberry for treo software!!
Is there a link where I can download the beta or can someone post me the beta.
Can I ask an obvious question here, why so excited about Blackberry on Treo?
I can understand the desire for Blackberry-like functionality on your Treo (or any other PDA for that matter) - push email, decent attachment handling, etc. But given that you're essentially buying into a proprietary solution to email handling issues, is Blackberry really that great?
There is an evolving Open Standards aproach to these issues, woudln't that be a better route to go down?
Will, you make a very valid point. With other applications available for the Treo that provide Blackberry-like functionality, I don't see the excitement outside of the fact that there are literally 1000's of companies running Blackberry and the Treo users in those organizations have been left out in the cold and BB Connect sounds like a way for them to utilize their beloved Treos in those environments.
Simply put Will - The reason that users want the BB Connect on their Treos is because it is an efficient email client. Rather than kill the battery all the time checking form email every minute or so, the email will come to you. I know this b/c I tested the Treo after having used my BBerry for the past year and I was immediately shocked by how complicated it was to setup. When using different email clients on a Treo it was impossible to use my AOL accounts and moreover it killed my batter life ( a fully charged Treo battery died on me after 2-3 hours) b/c I had it set to check for email at the quickest option capable - every 1 minute.
In addition, I was dissapointed to find out that the best Treo could offer in checking email was once every 15 minutes with it default email client. Why should you limit yourself to that constraint. (I know why! It's because otherwise it would kill your batter) Heck its not a question about needing your email every 3 hours or sooner; your emails should get to you the second they arrive in your inbox. Why miss something important? There are no ifs-and-or-buts about it. If you got a smartphone, its b/c you want to check on your emails and surf the 'Net. So why should something as basic as email feel more like a luxury to check on, rather than as a day-to-day tool.
Moreover, the way BB's manage attachments - PDF's, *.xls, *.doc, *.jpg...Everything you probally do use on a daily basis is simply phenomenal.
I sold my Treo 1 week after purchasing it from the store. treo's are alot of hype and they're doing a good job at their Public Relations office b/c people are buying it more out of aesthetics than efficiency. Sure you can build in-house software with its Palm OS and yes more software is out there for it than say BBerry, but that is only a matter of time. BBerry software will certainly intice future software writers to create more open/free software. Already, MidSSH is a cool and FREE SSH tool that i constantly use on my BBerry. Moreover, all the cool software that one would use for productivity reasons on a Treo, one must pay for anyway, so what use is it to emphasize that point in particular?
I'm an avid Macintosh user ( Yes, macin-trash for you Windows-folks) and I could care less that it doesn't sync to my Mac like a treo can. My BBerry never crashes and is more reliable than even most PC's and/or Mac's. PocketMac for BBerry will simply resolve this issue if you're into synching data with your computer, although honestly it is not truly that necessary for the majority of users.
In order to compete, the Treo's got to have PUSH type email and currently given the fact that the BBerry enterprise structure is already in place at many businesses, this seems like the be$t way to go. When Treo's finally do get BBerry Connect, trust me, THAT will be the TOOL that people will emphasize on these devices. Maybe then, I'll go back and purchase one again.
(And no, I don't have a BBerry connect beta for Treo for all you who have already asked - last time I heard it should be out in the summer however - July/August? :)
There IS push email for Treo: GoodLink. Does EVERYTHING that Blackberry does, most even better, on a Treo 600 and 650 and Pocket PC phones. All aspects of Exchange, attachements, everything with real time push (not pull). This is why the only appeal BB Connect will have is for pre-existing BB shops. Companies that want access to corporate email and want more functionality from the devices are going, and will continue to go with, Treos. BB Connect will have a limited, though fairly large based on RIM's market penetration, market.
Hmm. Goodlink doesn't do *everything* BES can do. Does it work with Lotus Domino? Get back to be on that.
Notice I said Exchange. Can BB run on anything, in the US, besides Blackberry?
Get back to me on that.
I agree that the cost of ownership for BES is cheaper; but, only if your Wireless carrier provides the BES for free. I am with Rogers AT&T and they offer the BES for free to their corp. clients. Unfortunately, their Treo solution (Visto) is not up to snuff with Bestlink or Intellisync. Intellisync does, however, have contracts with Cingular and Verizon. I bet they offer the Exchange version of their software to the above mentioned wireless carrrier's corp clients.
So, I guess my question is, "What Wireless carrier will sign a contract with BestLink?"
Also, where can I find out what, and what not, Blackberry connect will do for Treo devices (i.e. email, contacts and calendar)?
I think you mean GoodLink, as opposed the BestLink. As for carriers offering GoodLink, that is a very good question and remains to be seen.
The only information regarding BB Connect for the Treo that I have seen can be found at http://www.palmsource.com/palmos/mailblackberry.html
