I have to admit that one of the most exciting things that you can do on your Treo 600 is watch movies or videos while on the go.  For those who already owned a Palm handheld before purchasing a Treo this will be no news but for those new to the platform it should be a welcome bonus to know that you can do this.

Here are a few of the tools that you can use to view and convert movies and videos to play on your Treo:

Kinoma Player (Free)
Kinoma Producer is available for both Mac and PC users (Free Trial then $29.99)
You can get some free trailers to get started here at Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment

TealMovie (Free Trial then $29.95)
You will find a ton of free short movies to get started here and under no circumstances miss to download the hilarious 'Stick Fight'

Firepad Picture Viewer & Converter for PC and Mac ($29.99 with 30 Day Money Back Guarantee)

MMPlayer (Free) [Please note that while I have found MMPlayer unstable on the Treo in the past, the newest version 0.2.12 is a significant and stable improvement]
Here is a guide on how to rip your DVD's to watch on your Treo using MMPlayer.  You can use this software to convert your DVD's to avi format in order to playback on Treo (Free Limited Trial or $32.00 Full Version)
DrDivx (Free 15 Day Trial then $49.99) [You'll need this or another similar tool to convert your large Divx files to a handheld format.]

Enjoy and please let me know if you come across anything else particularly good related to movies on your Treo.

Real Player has come out with a free MP3 player for our TREO 600....Enjoy

I don't think MMPlayer is free anymore.
"Trial version limitations -
An unregistered copy of MMPlayer will display a text asking you to register after about 1 minute of playing a file. It will also start to decrease the volume (and contrast if playing video)."
as per there site

Does anyone know how to use the Treo 650 as a wireless modem? the documentation that comes with the Treo says that this is possible, but they don't tell you how to configure the treo/your computer to make it happen. and tech support doesn't have a clue. thanks for any info you can provide. (I'm a MAC user)

Anyone know how to upload video clips made with the 650 that are larger than 256KB?
I didn't realize that there was a maximum on the size to upload since it kept taping - yikes! Thanks -

MMPlayer locked up on me within 5 seconds of playback. However, "The Core Poket Media Player" (TCPMP) works just fine and IS free.

I found Softick Card Export which allows you to access the SD card on your Treo when your Treo's attached via cable/stand. I was able to copy over a GB without issue.

What software do I need to allow my Treo 600 camera function to synchronize with my Mac that is running OS 10.4?

by Dergan | Jan 28, 2006 8:06:40 AM

I purchased pocket-DVD Studio to watch movies. Do I need a new player on the actual 650? How do I get the 650 to play the movie? Please help...anyone?

I just got my treo 650 and I'm new to this whole thing. I want the best dvd ripper and player which route should I go?

by onojazcat | Apr 6, 2006 10:54:10 PM

I have the Treo 650 with the TCPMP. I've been having difficulty trying to download a DVD movie on to the Treo. I purchased PowerDVD and it worked out fine for the first few times and then the problems started. Downloading was a nightmare from the get-go (took almost 10-11 hours, from download on to the laptop to transfer into the Treo memory card which in this case was a 2 GB. Now I can get the video downloaded on to the Treo but when I want to view, either the sound won't go on, or the video will play choppy. I need to know if there's a way to get through the madness without having to purchase another converter or whatever you call the damn thing that transfer the dvd into "Treo-lese". Please advise

I need help regarding the synchronization of my treo 650 to my dell inspiron 5100 laptop. I bought a cable that can charge and can sync my phone to my laptop. It worked great for months, but it suddenly stopped. Whenever I connect the cord from the USB to the phone, it starts charging, but when I try to Hotsync it via cradle/cable, it does not work hotsync anymore like it used to, it is just charging. I get a message saying The connection between your handheld and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again. I thought it was the cable, but I have a friend that has the same phone, so I tried it on his laptop and it worked fine. I believe the settings on my laptop was changed. I noticed that when I go to Hotsync, SetUp, Local or Modem, the Serial Port is COM3 now instead of the COM1 before. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the software but it is still the same, it is COM3 now and no other options. I do not know how to put it back to COM1. Can anyone help me? I have been researching online for months and I still have not found any answers or help to my problem.

I had this same problem happen to me also. this week it has been telling me that the usb device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognize.

If there is an answer for this problem please help us out.

by Andy | May 6, 2006 3:39:51 PM

I am having the same problem. If someone solves this problem please e-mail me with instructions on how to fix.

by Valerie | May 12, 2006 3:35:51 PM

I fixed this identical problem by turning off the Norton Internet Security - a global looking icon on my system tray (not Norton AntiVirus) before hitting the hotsync button.

For Mac users there are two great programs that process a DVD for viewing on a video iPod or any PDA that plays mp4 files. And guess what? They're both free!! The main one is Handbrake. I allows you to tweak the audio and video settings to your heart's desire.

The other program is DVD2Pod. It is based on Handbrake, but gives you fewer options to make it simple - for the rest of us! I processed a 2 hour movie for my Treo 700p. It ended up as a 478mb file. The audio was excellent. I think if I used Handbrake and worked with the settings I could get it down even slammer.

My only recommendation is that you process full screen versions of movies. Wide screen movies work fine, but they are sure small, unless you have a Tungsten T5 or similar PDA with a big screen.

As always, abide by any applicable copyright laws.

How do I save and play video on a treo 650. Please inculde all relevant info.

I have had 5 Treo 650's and had trouble with every one of them. Now I have a new treo 700 thinking they have had to make improvements. 2 days and now it won't power up and it just rebooting over and over. What a piece of junk....any suggestions besides throwing it away and buying a different handheld?

by Duane Aubin | Oct 13, 2006 2:23:18 PM

Here's my kit, really simple, and it works...

PDA: Treo 650 with SD cards (I have a 2GB and a 512 MB card)

Movie viewer: the Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP). It's free, it's solid. I installed this into RAM on my Treo.

Compression software: Pocket DVD Wizard, install on your desktop or laptop, whatever you use. I paid for it, but it's worth it. If you download a movie with Limewire, you can compress that video file so it takes up less space on your SD card. Example, Office Space was a 660MB file, image quality excellent on TCPMP. Compressed it down to 200MBs, quality not as great, but takes up a lot less space.

File Transfer app: Card Reader, installed on Treo RAM. I use this to see files on my SD card, and drag and drop between the PDA and the desktop, much more effective than hotsyncing files to the SD card.

That's all you need. In terms of MP3 player, I don't use iTunes/PocketTunes, I use DioPlayer. It has some functionality shortcomings, but it's free and the basic skin looks cool. But you can play MP3s on TCPMP too if you want, not a very tune-oriented interface, but when things are free, you tend not to be overly demanding.

I've finally got a working system for converting my DVD movies to use on my Treo. Rip with MacTheRipper. Convert to MP4 with Handbrake (that latest release, all others would crash before finishing). Convert to MP4 optimized for the Treo with the new Kinoma Producer 4 and play on the Treo 700p with Kinoma Player 4EX.

Life is good, I've got 4 movies on my 4GB SD card, in addition to all the other stuff I've got on there, and room for several more.

I have recorded a couple of short video clips on my Treo650. I beamed them to my Windows XP laptop but Windows MediaPlayer won't run them. Is there a program for Windows that will allow me to view these clips on my laptop?

by John D | May 21, 2007 2:00:58 PM

I am trying to view video's I saved from my Treo650 as well. What player will play them? or do I need to convert them somehow?
