Treonauts Spends 1 Hour with the Treo 650 In Hand!

OK, in my previous post I had the opportunity to throw my little tantrum about the camera, bluetooth and memory issues and now that I've been able to get that steam out of my system and regain some composure I'm ready to let you know about the absolutely AWESOME experience of having had a Treo 650 in my hand for over one hour just moments ago... (I am unfortunately going straight into another meeting now and therefore will only be providing some pictures for the moment).

As I reported in the past however I can say that in the end I really, truly, believe that we have a real winner on our hands!

As previously exclusively reported the SD card is now the 'right' way around...

They may look identical but trust me when I say that there is a massive difference between both phones...

The camera may be the same resolution but it feels like it's a completely new device...

Accessing StarOffice using Blazer 4.0 online.

The keyboard is absolutely gorgeous and lights up like a Xmas tree even in broad daylight...

Running through all of the applications installed on this particular phone (please note that these are not all of the ones that will come bundled with the Treo 650)

Here a Win-Hand demo allowing you to remotely access your desktop - the improved screen resolution makes a world of difference here and you can clearly read 4 or 5 point fonts.

Here a demo of the Salesforce.com software which should make many mobile sales professionals rather happy.

A demo of the award winning PocketExpress service by Handmark which will come bundled with every Treo 650.

The new Preferences screen.

Above, the back of the Treo 650 with the battery cover removed and the stylus pulled half way out - it's a rather neat design.

Naturally we'll have more coming shortly straight from CTIA in San Francisco...

I was wondering whether any of the cases for the 600s will fit the 650. Like the aluminum case I have seen advertised. Anyone know?

How long do you think it will be before Verizon starts offering the 650?

Unfortunately, It looks like it will be a long wait for those of us who don't use Sprint

Got this response from Sprint yesterday:
Dear Roman,

I welcome the opportunity to serving you.

The PalmOne Treo 650 handset is scheduled to be launched in December
2004.

We want you to be happy and satisfied and we are here to serve you.
Have a great day!

Has anyone noticed the Extra button on the side of the voice toggles. I remember reading the 650 would have push-to-talk technology. Does anyone know whether Nextel will come out with the Treo?

I don't know where else to post this, but I had a conversation this evening with a regional rep from T-Mobile. He said that they received a memo today stating that T-Mobile WILL NOT be carrying the Treo 650. That's too bad for T-Mobile. I was going to buy one for all of my salesmen, but now we have to switch to Sprint to get the phones.

Tempted, but not sufficiently. The lack of WiFi, larger screen and better camera--not to mention the next-generation Palm OS--is very disappointing. What's on the horizon for Q1 2005?

Scott P. - Please tell me that you aren't going to switch from GSM to CDMA over the availability of a phone through their retail channel. Last time I checked, you can go out and buy phones just about anywhere!

My salesmen all currently have the Samsung Sph-i500 and want a Palm based phone with bluetooth so they don't have to keep pulling their palm out to make a call. They want bluetooth now and not in 6 months when the i550 is supposed to be released. We are currently being offered Treo 600 for $199 if we switch to T-Mobile from Sprint, but why buy another Plam phone if it is not an upgrade from what they currently have.

We have decided to stay with Sprint and pay the extra $$ so they can get the 650 in a few weeks.
