As I was settling in for my outbound flight perusing the Lufthansa on-board magazine I came across an interview with a real astronaut - Buzz Aldrin who along with Neil Armstrong was the first man to land (and walk) on the moon. While I was gripped by the article my eye drifted to his picture where to my astonishment and delight I saw a Treo 600 holstered to his hip!!! You can imagine my excitement at finding out that such a world famous man - an astronaut who throughout his life has had the opportunity to deal with leading edge technology (an understatement) - should have chosen the Treo as his communication tool of choice...
Buzz is certainly one Treonaut that we can all aspire to and I can only wish that I'll have the opportunity to meet and interview him myself some day...
My outbound journey had a similar twist. As I stopped to buy my stash of magazines at the CNBC News store at SF airport the monitors broadcasting CNBC in the store suddenly started coverage of palmOne with an interview of Ed Colligan and some financial overview. I politely asked people to hush and pressed the attendant to put the volume up - all were very nice about it... In the middle of the coverage the presenter suddenly started talking about the increasing importance of Treo 'fan' sites and gadget blogs where he mentioned Gizmodo (which gave Treonauts extensive coverage during CTIA) and TreoCentral. Wow, here we were (almost) on CNBC!!! I couldn't help departing with a slight bounce to my stride and a wide grin
