EXCLUSIVE - Treo 600 Breaks Unit Sales Milestone: 1 Million Treonauts Worldwide!!!

Earlier today in London I had the opportunity to attend an analyst briefing given by Ed Colligan, President of palmOne.

During the Q&A session Ed responded to my question about future unit sales projections for both the Treo 600 and 650 by stating that "We intend to perform as well next year as we did this year having recently broken the 1.0 million unit sales milestone."

On the one hand I found it a little disappointing that Ed would not provide us with some more precise guidance as to the projected unit sales for 2005 - which I personally hope will be in the region of 2.0 to 2.5 million units.  On the other hand I was somewhat startled to find out in such a casual way that palmOne had in fact recently broken the important 1.0 million unit mark with the Treo 600 as there has not been a single press release or other statement from palmOne mentioning this before...

At any rate, this is certainly cause for celebration and if my memory serves me right the ascent of the Treo 600 to the 1.0 million mark actually beat by a few months that of another category defining product - the iPod...  If current developments are any indication the world may very well be in the midst of another emerging cult device - a mention that would be more than well deserved for the Treo 600 and even more so for the soon to be released Treo 650.

Well, if palmOne won't pop the cork on this terrific milestone then at the very least I know of one Treonaut here who will!!!  Ladies and gentlemen please join me in raising your glasses to the 1 millionth Treonaut - wherever in the world he or she may be ...
