MobiTV on your Treo - soon...
I recently had the opportunity to bump into the MobiTV team. As I introduced myself as the editor of Treonauts they all started looking at me smiling and one then said "Ahh, so you're the one...". Nonplussed I asked him what he meant by this and he began to tell me the story of how Treonauts were the reason that MobiTV was now actively developing support for the Treo.
A few months ago you may remember that I posted one of our most popular articles entitled "Treo 600 is Great but does it do Entertainment?". Among the long list of entertainment software and services that I highlighted was MobiTV. Thanks to an alert Treonaut I soon found out however that MobiTV was not yet supported on the Treo and I wrote an errata with a suggestion that Treonauts could "email the company and put some pressure on them to get working on it pronto...".
Well, it appears that after so many Treonauts took this to heart and innundated MobiTV requesting support for our Treos that the company could simply no longer ignore it. Amusingly they then went out and bought a Treo 600 for their technical director and told him that he couldn't use any other phone until he got the MobiTV service working on it!
So here you have it. We can exclusively report that (aside from being a great bunch of people) MobiTV are working on making their service available for the Treo and that its in no small part thanks to all you Treonauts out there who decided to do something about it - cheers!
Below is an image of a live demo on a Nokia phone working on the AT&T network (also available on Sprint).
Treonauts praise the things they like and nag for the things they want...

Right on Right on! Now I NEED EDGE... no longer optional! ;)
Does anyone know when EDGE will really be available for the Treo 650?
As for EDGE- Ditch that tired old GSM, which is based on TDMA technology. GSM and GPRS are grandpa's cell phone technology. TDMA has neither the performance nor the range nor the data thruput of CDMA. Edge is only avaliable in a few areas limited now anyway.
Sprint's CURRENTLY DEPOLYED NATIONWIDE CMDA network gives me data speeds of at least 150 kbps and usually up to 250 kbps on my sprint phone. Verizion, also using CDMA is begining to impliment a 300-500 kbps data system. That blows EDGE out of the water.
I would highly suggest you get with the times and leave GSM to the poor saps in Europe who don't have anything better.
