Essential Treo 650 Enhancement Utilities
Now that many existing Treonauts and will-be Treonauts are on their path to upgrade/buy their Treo 650 GSM I thought that you'd like to know of a couple of applications that I consider to be absolutely essential for it - they are in fact so good that I wonder why palmOne or PalmSource have not already bundled them in our Treo.
The applications that I am referring to are KeyCaps600 and KBLightsOff which were among the very first that I installed on my new Treo 650.
KeyCaps600 (Donationware $10) is a Treo (600/650) keyboard enhancement utility that helps you to significantly increase the speed at which you enter capital letters and use punctuation and special characters.
As you know, the typical way to enter capital letters on the Treo is done by pressing Shift+LetterKey while punctuation or special characters requires Option+CharacterKey. This two step process is easy enough but KeyCaps600 simplifies it further.
Once the application is enabled, you'll be able to enter a capital letter simply by holding the letter for a delay that you set (100ms to 500ms) while entering a character becomes a simple matter of double-clicking the key. KeyCaps600 functionality will work for text or data entry in all applications installed on your Treo and is a snap to setup.
UPDATE: You must select 'Disable in Phone App' in KeyCaps if you want to use your Favorites keyboard shortcuts in the Phone app - it took me a while to figure that one out...
KBLightsOff (30 Day Trial then $5.50) is another utility that allows you to control the keyboard backlighting on the Treo 650.
While the standard backlighting on the Treo 650 is absolutely superb it has one small drawback. Namely, it is always on and there is no way to save (some) battery life by turning it off - particularly when using applications such as video or eBooks that require the screen to be on but where the keyboard lights are absolutely not necessary.
As its title suggests, KBLightsOff resolves this issue and simply turns off the keyboard's backlighting when not in use but automatically reactivates it the moment any key is pressed - staying lit for 10 seconds unless another key is pressed again. A great and simple app in a tiny 13K package.

If you have a Treo 650, you should go to http://www.geekandproud.net/software/keycaps650.php instead. It fixes a system sounds bug with KeyCaps600 on the 650.

are there any apps for the treo 600 that turn grafiti back on. i really liked using that to enter text and commands on my old palm and i miss it on my new treo 600
You can add an application called Graffity Anywhere to both Treo 600 and Treo 650 PDAs.

I am a small (2 person) busines owner, have a treo 650, a Microsoft Exchange Server through Mi8 and a Tablet PC. I was told that I am SOL syncing unless I buy GOODLINK for $45 installation cost and $40 per month. Too much! I cannot hotsync because Palm does not support the Tablet PC. I can only use the phone and versamail thru POP3. I was told by Toshiba, Palm and Mi8 that there is nothing I can do and I should buy a blackberry.

I have a Treo 650 with Cingular (AT&T) and I've been experiencing this problem: 70% of the time "Call Log" won't record the calls, either missed, incoming or outgoing, It's really frustating...!! I called ATT to report the problem (I considered it was a SIM card problem) and they forward me with Treo and I got bounce back to Cingular. what can I do?
