Unfortunately nobody was given the opportunity to play around with a real Treo running Windows Mobile (official picture above) at either the morning press announcement with Microsoft and Verizon nor at the analyst meeting held at Palm’s headquarters which I attended later yesterday afternoon.
However, I did get a chance to get a ‘dummy’ in my hands (pictured below next to my Treo 650) and I truly hope that before the week is over I will also be able to spend at least five minutes with a real one. As was the case with the Treo 650 before its release, pictures of the Treo Windows Mobile don’t really do it justice – it is actually a lot less ‘ugly’ when you hold it and overall the ‘square’ design gives it a modern feel.

Doesn't seem as if the keyboard's keys on the 700w are squarer, flatter and angled differently from those on the 650? I ask because I've always had a tough time typing on the 650's keys and I wonder if the new shape and configuation for the 700w's keys might make for easier typing.

Sorry, meant to say in my post above:
"Doesn't it seem . . ."
It seems as though every iteration attempts to get a slightly larger key size, and they've apparently squeezed about as much as they can out of this form factor :).
It did take me a few days to adjust to the 650 after upgrading from a 600 due to the curved keyboard, so I wonder how I'll do with this one (once there's a Sprint version of course).
Any thoughts on how EVDO can be used with a notebook PC? Via wifi perhaps?

After Verizon released the Palm Treo 700w, according to several sources including Bear, Stearns, Sprint, too, was due to release the Palm Treo 700w sometime in the early spring (say,March '06). They did not. I have a Samsung i500 with Sprint which is a Smartphone on the Palm OS. I want the new Palm Treo 700w with the Windows Mobile 5 OS. But cannot find out any potential release date. I contacted Sprint and Palm both. Palm's PR dept wrote back and said in the 2nd half of this '06 a new Treo 700w should be coming out on CDMA (aside from Verizon, Sprint is the only other CDMA), but I could get nothing out of Sprint. Then a rep at Sprint told me that they delayed the release because of some of the problems Verizon had, such as synch and the smaller pixel screen and they would release in July. Does anyone know anything about this, any info on when Sprint will release the Palm 700w, and how they may have improved it? Thanks, Don Smedley
