Great Deals on Treo 650
Barely five weeks after reducing the price of its Unlocked Treo 650 GSM from $699 to $649, Palm yesterday reduced it even further to $599.
Since the Unlocked Treo 650 works exclusively on GSM networks this news will be of interest only to those Treonauts currently on either Cingular/AT&T or T-Mobile in the US and a range of other networks worldwide. In the case of Cingular customers I personally prefer the Unlocked Treo 650 because it affords the freedom to upgrade or change service provider whenever you feel like instead of being locked into a two year agreement (in order to get the best deal). In the case of T-Mobile customers the only option is actually to purchase the unlocked version since the company does not sell its own branded Treo 650.
Alternatively, if you’re on a CDMA network such as Sprint or Verizon and are currently considering the purchase of a Treo 650 then you should definitely consider EarthLink Wireless (an MVNO powered by both Sprint and Verizon wireless’ networks) which is currently offering a two-year service contract with a Treo 650 for only $99 (after $100 rebate). This is without a doubt the best deal that you’ll come across on a CDMA network in the US.
Finally, I also wanted to discuss Palm’s new marketing campaign (above) for the Treo which by now most Treonauts will undboutedly have seen somewhere either on a billboard or in a magazine. Although it’s evidently nice to see our Treo everywhere I am nonetheless not super excited about this campaign because it says so little about everything that it can do (see DiscoverTreo.com) and instead focuses just on the email, phone, web and organizer aspects of it – something which in my opinion does little to catch the true and vast spirit of our Treo…

You know what lower unlocked Treo prices has historically meant? It means something new is on the horizon. I can only hope (and that its Palm-based). :)
