Seidio's Retractable Sync & Charge Cables
Sometimes itâs easy to overlook the small and useful things because they seem so obvious. I thought about this earlier today as I glanced at my Seidio Retractable Sync & Charge cable and marveled at how useful â indispensable I would argue â an accessory it has become for my Treo.
Seidioâs retractable cables stretch to some 2ft when extended and measure only 4.5 inches when rolled up. They now come in three options (above) and all use a standard USB connector for power. The first is a Sync & Charge cable ($15.95) with a Hotsync button for your Treo only. The second is a Charge only cable ($12.95) which can be used for both your Treo and Palm Wireless BT Headset ($59.95). The third combines both functions in one ($19.95) so that you can Hotsync your Treo while also conveniently charging it and the Palm BT Headset (below).
Anyone who like me travels extensively will immediately see the benefits of carrying the small and light Seidio Retractable Sync & Charge cable instead of the standard Palm wall charger provided with our Treo. If you also happen to own Palmâs Wireless Headset then the S&C Duo model will quickly prove essential.
The fact is that even though there are many accessories that I consider to be âessentialâ (see my guide Getting the Right Gear for your Treo 650) if I had to choose one accessory to give a top prize to in the âUnder $30â category it would without a doubt be for one of the retractable sync & charge cables and I believe that no Treonaut should be without one.
Treonauts always find the top gearâ¦

My general experience with Seidio products is that they are complete crap. I've gone through two retractable sync and charge cables in about 4 months. I gave up on the retractable cables and am now trying the travel size sync & charge cable because I heard that other people had better experience with it. However, if this one gives the same issues, Seidio is officially on my black list.
Nick - generally speaking it is true that retractable cables can be more fragile than standard ones but Seidio should not be singled out for this.
Please note that Seidio recently upgraded all of its retractable enclosures and mechanisms (seen on the left and right of the top picture) and these are now significantly more robust.
I have personally not had any issues whatsoever with either the old or new model and I use them on a daily basis.
Cheers, A.
I bought the Seido two-in-one headset, and it sucks. Not only is the sound quality inferior to that of Palm's own two-in-one, but it's cheaply made. Seido gets one more chance from me.
Sadly, I've to confer with s.elements about the Two-in-one-headset. I've bought such an adapter, but the plug did not fit correcly into my Treo (just like this very cheap headsets - the moment you just slightly move it, your stereo experience instantly switched to Mono). For over one month I'm trying to get a replacemnt unit, but at least the European shop (www.seidio-europe.com) has the worst customer care policy imaginable:
- The contact form gives a "page not available" error
- the RMA return email is never answered
- there is no contact information avaialable at the side, neither phone nor postal mail. Anybody knows how to contact them? I've already tried to get this information from the American side, but didn't get a reply from them, either ...
My Advice - Only buy Seidio in Europe if you don't care about customer support.
