Treo 700w Launch Date

Well, it looks like there are some good news in store for those Treonauts anxiously waiting for the release of their new Treo 700w running Windows Mobile…

According to a post at Howard Forums by an anonymous Verizon employee the Treo 700w will be officially launched on January 5, 2006 instead of the previously anticipated end of January beginning of February date.

This rumour overlaps strongly with others currently circulating that see the launch of the Treo 700w coinciding with Bill Gates’ keynote at the forthcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on January 4.

I will naturally be attending the CES event and hope that this will indeed prove to be the occasion for the official release and perhaps also some announcement on Palm’s part regarding the three other Treo smartphones that the company plans to release in 2006

Why didn't they release it early Dec? No one will have any money left in Jan, after buying all the Chrissy presents. ;)

Gabriel, Gmail works on the Treo 650 in VersaMail.... it doesn't work on your Palm? Which do you have?

Great to hear about the Treo 700w, but any word yet on when the Treo-700p might be coming?

As much as I like the Treo 700w's native support for WMV and other multimedia features, I am really not a fan of Windows Mobile and I would like to stick with Palm OS. I've heard OS6/Cobalt is supposted to be pretty awesome.

I'd really love to know if Sprint is taking preorders or anything on the 700p. They say nothing on their page.

And as far as Gmail...

it will work with just about any email client which supports pop3 and smtp, which is pretty much all of them. Any standard e-mail client for the Treo, including Versamail will work fine. That is what I use!

Newbee here, I have never owned a "Smartphone" or a PDA. But I am very interested in getting the 700w, when it comes out. Does anyone have a comment or suggestion for someone who has never had a device like this before? Would it be smarter to get a 650 or get the 700w and take the plunge. I guess the good thing is I would not have anything to compare it with so there won't be as much disappointment as others might have. I don't visit here often and might have a hard time finding it again. So, can someone email me thier thoughts at [email protected]?

Regarding the gmail ?s - Google recently introduced a mobile web version of gmail at http://m.gmail.com, which in my opinion, works better than using an email client to read mail.

Many PDA/Phones run word processors such as Word or Graffiti but only Palm sells a nearly full size keyboard for their PDA. What is the point of word processors with those tiny keyboards? Some, like Samsung, will run word processors but have no keyboard at all. That seems completely crazy to me. What am I missing or not understanding?

I went back to check gmail setup help, and does, in fact, work for me...with one exception... it keeps timing out!

Any advice?

will my Vaja T65 case fit on the 700p. That would be big in my decision to upgrade. Also will the Sprint 700p support EV-DO or some other faster internet. Thats really the only thing I'd like my 650 to do better/faster

Tom - from where I'm sitting today it doesn't look like we'll see a Treo 700w (Windows Mobile) or Treo 700p (PalmOS) until September.

More likely is that a new GSM Treo will be released in the next few months in Europe.

Cheers, A.
