Aquapac Waterproof Treo Case Review

I haven’t yet had the opportunity to take my Treo to the beach or on a boat but just in case I’ve now added the Aquapac waterproof case to my collection.

I’ve had an eye on a Treo case like this from our Treo Accessory Shop for some time to protect against sand, water, suncreen and other ills that are likely to plight my Treo the day that I finally get a chance to roast under a palm tree again…

Aquapac is a company that uniquely specializes in waterproof cases for all kind of electronic devices and this particular one (pictured below) will fit all Treo models including the latest Treo 650 and Treo 700w while also making space for a stylus holder on the outside.

The Aquapac waterproof case has a patented Aquaclip Locking Closure System (pictured below) which hermetically seals your Treo inside a transparent plastic sheath through which you can both place and receive calls as well as listen to music (albeit with some microphone/speaker attenuation but if you own VolumeCare Pro you can always boost the handset and speakerphone levels).

Additionally, the Aquapac case is guaranteed 100% waterproof to 5 metres (15 feet) which means that if you absolutely don’t want to go swimming (or take a bath) without your Treo you can do so in the knowledge that it will still be working by the time you come out.

The package also includes a removable neck strap.  Since I like to listen to my favourite music with Pocket Tunes in the shower in the morning I ‘accidentally’ discovered that I can just hang the Aquapac case with the strap to my shower head and enjoy my tunes.  I could even answer a call while under the shower now but depending on who’s calling this might be a little inappropriate…

At any rate, whichever use you might personally have for it, the Aquapac waterproof case is a terrific solution to protect your Treo in any wet situation.

Treonauts always like singing in the shower…

I have one like this for my iPod. I swim with it. It works -- so far. It's kind of worrisome to dunk an expensive toy in the water on purpose.

I've seen a similar case for the iPod, and it was MUCH more form-fitting...and less stupid looking.

And what's the point of the stylus slot? Can you actually manipulate the touchscreen when it's inside that case with the stylus? It's hard to imagine. As a matter of fact, it's hard to imagine the Treo being very usable at all when it's in there. I think I'll use a homemade solution instead...like, oh I dunno, sticking my 650 inside a piece of tupperware. Hey, at least that way it'd float, too!

(I apologize for this highly cynical comment - I just finished watching "The Notebook", and am highly emotional:p)

...

It just looks so stupid...right up there with the 'fanny pack'.

s.elements - I can tell you that it works better than a tupperware and I understand that you're feeling somewhat emotional at the moment... ;-)

Cheers, A.

Any comments on reading through the Aquapac? My interest would be in being able to read e-books in the rain. It looks like the case might be shiny enough to make it difficult to see the screen in less-than-ideal lighting conditions.

Are there any alternatives designed SPECIFICALLY for the 650?

Otterbox make a product specifically for the HP 6500's, maybe Andrew can use his persuasive skills and get them to make a Treo model too :o)
