More Pictures of the Treo... 'Lowrider'?

Following my previous post “First Pictures of Treo 'Hollywood'!?” some additional pictures have been released of the same Treo (possibly a prototype) which appears identical to the Treo 650 except that it doesn’t sport an antenna.

Evidently, now that we can clearly see below that the thickness of this Treo ‘prototype’ has not been reduced we have to discard the likelihood that this would be the much anticipated “Hollywood” model which is widely rumoured to be both ‘thinner and slicker’ than the Treo 650.

So, if it’s not the Treo “Hollywood” could this nonetheless be one of the yet unseen Treo “Lowrider” models also rumoured to be released this year?  Or yet another unknown Treo?

Overall, while many would like to claim that these images are a sophisticated hoax I find it unlikely that someone would have gone through the rather time consuming and costly process of making an entirely new casing simply for amusement…

Either way, whether this is just a fully working antenna-less Treo 650 or an as yet unreleased new Treo I would very much like to get my hands on one!

It seems odd to me that this prototype would have the same keyboard and 5-way navigator as the Treo 650, when the 700 is the current production run. Is there a possibility that this is just an elaborate Photoshop job?

Lytspeed - everybody has now discarded the Photoshop job option but instead are suggesting that this is a 'custom paint job'... Still, this does not account for the missing antenna...

Also, as you point out, this model uses the Treo 650 keys and keyboard which would seem to match the rumours that Palm would 're-use' an old casing for its forthcoming 'Lowrider' model.

Cheers, A.

this posting is a poor hoax. Palm would never release a new model of a Treo that was exactly the same shape as a prior model. The paint job is miserable (metallic blue?) and the poster on TreoCentral was clearly a lurker. The 700p pictures that have come out are much more convincing...

ambtreo - I can't disagree with any of this but how does one account for the missing antenna? This is more than just a paint job.

If it's a hoax than at the very least it required someone to build an entirely new case...

Yes, these pictures are not entirely convincing but I'm having a hard time dismissing them altogether.

Cheers, A.

YOU GUYS ARE ALL FOOLS IF YOU BELIEVE THAT PICTURE! WHY WOULD PALM GO THROUGH ALL THAT TROUBLE TO COME UP WITH THE EXACT SAME HOUSING JUST WITHOUT THE ANTENNA! FOOLS!

do you guys see a picture of the top? wouldn't it be so easy to just saw off the top of an old treo, and put on a good paint job and pass it on as a hoax so all you guys can believe it? looks like a terrible airplane model paint job to me!

Uh, look closely. The blue treo is using the Athena connector while the 650 isn't. And the blue color does make the device more appealing if the target customers are non-business users and European GSM users.

The Treo 650 DOES use Athena, the 600 doesn't. So it's quite possible that the picture is a fake. In fact, it's highly probably. As for te 'paint job', might not even be a paint job.

Are you serious...that doesnt even look like a phone that palm would produce. It looks like a kid who took apart his phone painted it with his sisters nail polish and pulled out the antenna to fool you. Those colors look to shiny to be molded plastic. It seriously looks like nail polish. And anyway why would Palm Sell the exact same thing as a TREO 650 just without and antenna...I mean come on give me a break...and the only screenshot he shows is of pocket tunes maybe to hide the fact that it is a Treo 650...too bad he wont give us a good shot of where the antenna is supposed to me...ahh maybe so that we dont see that he just took it out filled it in with something and painted it over.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT FACT YOU ALL FAILED TO MISS. WHERE ARE THE LOGOS???? THERE ARE NO PALM, TREO, OR CARRIER LOGOS, EVEN THE EARLIEST RUMORS OF THE TREO 700W AND 700P HAD LOGOS.

11
by Andrew | Mar 23, 2006 12:29:12 AM

Charles - actually, if you look at one of the two Treo 700 smartphones from back in March 2005 there are no Palm, Treo or carrier logos...

Andrew -

I agree with your comment regarding the whereabouts of the missing antenna. However, if you look at all the pictures that this lurker has posted, none give you a clear view of where the antenna would be. That's because the lurker removed the antenna and did a less than professional job covering the hole. He paints the case blue and never gives you a foto of the missing antenna.

Regarding the pTunes streaming, the only time I get a Yellow indicator on my treo is when I am out of data coverage. This clearly might occur with an antenna that's been removed or mangled.

I believe in the 700p, but not this hoax.

15
by Andrew | Mar 24, 2006 6:52:42 PM

ambtreo - actually the red/orange/yellow indicator light is on because the Treo is sitting in the cradle charging...

Cheers, A.

by Charles Copeland | Mar 25, 2006 7:12:12 PM

When the treo is charging it has a red led not orange or yellow. There are two different led's...RED and GREEN and when mixed together they make ORANGE. The only explanation for the streaming music is Reverse Bluetooth Dial Up Networking

If it were real it would have a Palm logo on it and Less Bling Bling. Also the brushed metal is very easy too duplicate with sandpaper. This is nothing but a hoax.
Come On Red white and Blue? That’s a color combination I for one don't want to be walking around with at the office.. I don’t see why he did not just finish it off with an airbrushed American eagle on the back or perhaps a waving American flag? Even better why don't you just paint it orange, put the rebel flag on it and assign an mp3 ring tone that sounds like the General Lees horn from the Dukes of Hazard. LMAO
