Treo 'Lowrider': It Actually Works!?
So, first we got pictures of just the top back corner of something that looked like an antenna-less Treo (First Pictures of Treo 'Hollywood'!?) but couldn’t really tell if they were for real or not.
Next we saw pictures of the full front and side of this presumed to be Treo ‘Lowrider’ (More Pictures of the Treo... 'Lowrider'?) but since the screen wasn’t on we couldn’t tell if the smartphone was working – in case it was just a Treo 650 whose antenna had just been chopped off.
Now we get the first pictures of this Treo ‘Lowrider’ (I’ll stick to that model for the moment) seeing it indeed working and playing streaming radio (RAAR.FM) at 160Kbps (look at the top right hand corner of the screen) with Pocket Tunes Deluxe which would evidently seem to suggest that the radio on this antenna-less Treo is working perfectly well indeed…
So is this really the anticipated new baby in the Treo family? As someone commented in my previous post, I would tend to agree that the blue colour and more ‘funky’ casing make this Treo a strong contender for the Lowrider as it makes it more appealing to a wider – non-business – consumer audience as well as more fashion-conscious European GSM users.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to categorize these pictures as part of some elaborate hoax and hopefully more information and images will surface in the coming days. For the moment the mystery continues…
Treonauts always uncover mysteries…

» Is this the Treo Lowrider? from Treo Today
Several months ago, there was speculation that Palm would be releasing several models of Treos this year, including “Hollywood” (a 3G/UMTS model) and “Lowrider” (an entry-level model). Treonauts has photos of a Treo which could be the Lowri... [Read More]

» Rumor: Treo Lowrider from Celularis
La nueva integrante de la familia Treo parece estar orientada a otro público; sin antena externa (eso sería un buen paso adelante) carcaza de colores llamativos, y un screenshot en el que se ve un streaming de RAAR.FM a 160Kbps... [Read More]

Well, one can always argue that those are still screenshots of pocket tunes captured from another device and displayed on the 'Lowrider' using an image application.
how many times i gotta tell you, if palm actually comes out with one thats painted like that using airplane model metallic paint, you guys are all fools for buying it! that thing is hideous! look at the silver part towards the top and around the earpiece. terrible paint work! and these will appeal to the non-business and euro people? are they all blind?
montblanc - I think it is worthwhile noting that almost exactly the same thing was said about the first pictures released back in March 2005 of what would nine months later become known as the Treo 700...

Clearly, if these particular pictures are of a prototype this would account for the 'ugly' factor...
Cheers, A.
I really doubt that this is either the hollywood or the lowrider model. Palm will most certainly make some other industrial design changes other than just taking away the external antenna.
Ah, a study in gullibility.
It's a spray=painted 650. Period. Someone did some nifty work to move the antenna, but that honestly, really doesn't surprise me given what I've seen modders do.
Come on - the styling is *identical* to the 650 in every way, sans antenna and an ugly (although well done) paint job. When have you *ever* seen a company release a product like that? Never.
Yes, yes, I have one. No, I'm not an employee of the manufacturer nor of a carrier, but I've been given one to carry around. It is a low-cost, somewhat boring update.
Don't get your hopes up yet. The best is yet to come.
Somebody is really having some fun here. The only difference with the 650 is the bevel which has been softened. Just look at the 5-way. You can clearly see on the first pic that it's overdone. The Palm and Treo brand are nicely painted out too. Good Photoshop job, but not good enough...
wow andrew, i guess i'm mistaken. you are right, back when the 700 picture first appeared back in march 2005 from your link, it does show a hideously painted 700!
cheers! m
This is pathetic. Its a 650 for chris sakes!!!! Someone out there is laughing is ass off.
Anyone have a guide on how to paint the case of a scratched Treo 650?
Pics seem legit to me. And per the time when one of these rumor-type articles come out, this one is said to be a fake, and then its real. The blue will appeal to folks just like it did with the Zire71 and Zire72 models. For some reason, folks that are non-techie like blue.
Great job on getting the pics Andrew.
Now the only thing left for me is to figure out how to view Treonauts better on my 650 (Blazer doesnt do well with nice three cols like this site).
gosh get real people! THESE ARE FAKE! appeal? maybe the blue will appeal to some people, but this one is so obviously a terrible paint job!
mark my words, palm will not come out with something as hideous looking at this! thats what faceplates and custom paint jobs are for! if i'm wrong, then you can come back here and flame me.
Look at where the antenna should be in the first picture. Whoever PShopped these pictures of a painted 650 should've used an antialiasing tool.
I too screamed FAKE!!! Until I dug up that old Sagio report on PALM... the old one with all the juicy details! (Andrew has a copy)
"Hollywood to be released in March by Cingular"
This one is obviously painted, but maybe to disguise the logos?
why would palm move their engineering backwards for case design on a new treo? this is def faker than your mommas wig.
Its a 650 painted badly in a modded case with the antenna removed.
Look at the 700w, the housing looks better than the 650, just as the 650 looks better than the 600... why after making a 700w would palm move backward and create a nearly identical housing for their NEW SUPER SMARTPHONE as they did almost 3 years ago with the Treo650??? c'mon people... Treonauts... dont waste your readers' time with posts like this that are obvious hoaxes, and even worse than that... dont question the fact that something as poorly done as this is a hoax... you do this stuff professionally, dont you know how to spot a very poorly done hoax? c'moooonnnnn.
