Sprint Treo 700p Release This Month: May 28 Confirmed Launch Date?
As always we won’t know for sure until we actually see it but a new leak straight out of Sprint’s internal “Weekly Playbook” includes a launch calendar (above) that clearly shows a ‘Palm Treo 700’ due to be released commercially starting on Sunday, May 28…
There’s no indication though as to whether this will be a Treo 700p running PalmOS or Treo 700w running Windows Mobile – there are rumours aplenty that Sprint will actually release both Treo smartphones although not simultaneously.
As well as a number of smaller but important improvements the Treo 700p is believed to include: Sprint’s Power Vision, high-speed wireless EV-DO data connectivity, 1.3MP camera, Sprint TV, On Demand, Streaming Music with Pocket Tunes as the default MP3 player, Phone as Modem, Bluetooth, 128mb of Memory, SD Memory Card, Refined Industrial Design.

As it looks like Sprint will be delaying the availability of the 700W until after they start selling the 700P (I spoke to a Sprint salesman yesterday that said the 700P would be out late in May and the 700W not until September), how do the two two operating systems differ on the same model? I've been reading your reviews of the 700W versus the 650, but I'm interested to know if I should go ahead and purchase the 700P or wait for the 700W to become available from Sprint. I'm locked into Sprint as my provider and I desperately need to upgrade my phone as soon as possible. I'd appreciate any feedback that you can provide for me.
What is the release date for the Treo 700p with Cing? Any news?
I can't wait for the 700p to come out for Sprint. I hate how my 650 sends many of my phone calls to voicemail while it is in a data call. Many times, I am unaware that my phone is in a data call (retrieving email or connecting to Verichat)!
Anyone know if the 700p will have the 700w's reduced screen resolution? (Reduced relative to the 650, that is.)
Steven Grimm,
There is no reason to believe that the resolution of the 700p will be different from the 650. The resolution of the 700w was because of Windows Mobile.
Whats the word on the street with the specs of the 700p? I love the sound of EVDO, but I don't think its worth the downdgrade from HiRes (assuming the resolution would follow suit with the 700w).
To Clarify: the Treo 700p WILL have a high-res 320x320 screen like the 650...
Also, no word yet on Cingular release but I'm really hoping for absolutely no later than September but ideally in June/July period.
Cheers, A.
Of course ... the old date of May 15th could be right too. "According to CNET, the 700p is due to arrive next Monday, May 15th. That's nearly two weeks earlier than the last rumored launch date we heard about, May 28th, but is consistent with earlier rumors that pointed to a Sprint rollout next Monday." (see Engadget Mobile)
When is the earliest I could theoretically get the Treo-700p?
I've talked to the Sprint stores in my area. The told me that they probably won't get it the first day it is released. (be it the 15th or the 28th). But they could probably order it then.
if it is "launched" on a given day, does that mean stores will have it in stock to sell on that day? If so, I'm planning on going to NYC, because I would have to think that one of the stores there would have it.
Are there any Sprint stores which are open at midnight?
Or could it be bough slightly before and not activated until midnight?
Also..how are the rules about when it is sold enforced? Is there any chance I could persude them to sell it to me at 7:00pm, on the grounds that that would be midnight GMT, which is generally considered the universal time standard.
Alternatively, could I make a case for an even earlier sale at midnight on the international dateline?
Damn right I'm impatient.
-Steve

Our company uses BCEE from Sprint and I just received the following email regarding updates to their BCEE Servers. It appears that 5-28 is the date.
