Sprint Treo 700wx: Yet More Unique Specs Emerge

We thought that we already knew everything that there was to know about Sprint’s forthcoming Treo 700wx but apparently not…

We have already had multiple confirmations that the available ‘Program’ memory has been increased to 64MB but now thanks to two new Palm spec sheets (images + text above and below) we discover something that we had not expected – namely that Palm have worked to finally introduce ‘threaded SMS’ functionality in this latest Windows Mobile Treo. 

Threaded SMS is something which has been common on PalmOS Treo smartphones from day one and which delivers probably one of the very best SMS experiences in the world – one that I absolutely love particularly when I am able to SMS with smilies to other Treonauts.  At last Windows Mobile Treonauts will be able to share the same experience.

Additionally we also learn (below) that the Treo 700wx will be Sprint’s first Windows Mobile device to include Sprint TV which delivers streaming music, video and live television programming…

At the same time yet another rumour that has been circulating is that the Treo 700wx will have built-in GPS functionality but this is _not_ true.  The GPS that these spec sheets refer to is the “built-in assisted GPS” for emergency 911 service and also location based services (LBS) but not GPS navigation like TomTom’s (see New Palm GPS Navigator Smartphone Edition 2).

I not going to say anything about WiFi since we all know that it is unfortunately not built-in but at least a) Palm have publicly stated that they are considering including this in future devices and b) anyone _really_ needing WiFi on their WM Treo smartphone can do so by using an SDIO WiFi card (see Treo 700w Review: Part 4).

Finally, a couple of leaked Sprint brochures and sales kits (image above) also reveal that the suggested retail price for the Treo 700wx with no contract will be set at $649.99 while an instant rebate of $150 combined with a mail-in rebate of $100 will bring the price down to $399.99 for Treonauts signing up to a 2 year contract.
