Treo 700wx Coming To Sprint Very Soon...

Aside from Cingular’s two eagerly anticipated Treo 750’s (one PalmOS and the other Windows Mobile) there are also many Sprint users who have felt left out by not having their own version of the Treo 700w (considered by most to be the very best Windows Mobile smartphone on the market today) which Verizon has had exclusively to itself for nearly nine months.

There are however some very good news for all Sprint users wishing to become a non-PalmOS Treonaut.  Thanks a Treonaut’s watchful eyes we discover that an updated Sprint PCS Connection Manager software (screenshot above) includes an interesting unreleased device called the Treo 700wx.

It appears that Sprint will be releasing this new Treo 700wx as early as August 27 for business customers and September 3 for retail sales.  Additionally, it promises to not be just any Windows Mobile Treo but one with quite a bit of extra oomph.

The Treo 700wx (the ‘x’ is presumed to mean ‘Extra’) will among others apparently benefit from double the amount of memory on the 700w as well as a number of other ‘superior’ specifications – interestingly this would be the first time that Palm will have delivered an ‘updated’ device from carrier to carrier with a single model…

Beefed-up Treo 700w for Sprint on September 3? [via Engadget with a very special thanks to baseballkyle for the tip on the Treonauts Forum]

That's because it's not the picture of a Treo... ;-))

"That's because it's not the picture of a Treo... ;-))"

"OF" a Treo ... or "FROM" a Treo ;-) For what it's worth, I've been enjoying snapping photos with my Treo700p and even though its far better than other cellphone cameras, really wish it were a little bit better. Anyone come up with a 'spectacle' mod so macro photos aren't so blurry? (great accessory folks)

I currently own a Sprint Treo 700p. When I purchased it in June, I was told that I would be able to upgrade to the Windows OS at a later date. Does the news you mentioned above apply in my situation? My question in a nutshell: when will I be able to download the Windows OS to my 700p? Thanks!
(e-mailing me your response would be handy! :-) )

Chris - you cannot change the OS on your Treo 700p... The Treo 700p is exclusively a PalmOS device while the Treo 700w is exclusively a Windows Mobile device.

Cheers, A.

My corporate Sprint rep told me that they had the 700wx in stock, and would be sending mine out on Monday Sept. 4. He said the 1 week delay was due to them needing to process the new phones.

I spoke with a CSR from Sprint and they said that the Treo 700wx will be available on the 31st of August. Can't wait much longer I think I might explode!!
