Cingular Treo 750: Available Sooner Than Expected?

There is now a significantly higher probability of seeing a GSM Cingular Treo 750 much sooner than expected as some areas of Palm’s website have already been uploaded with ‘hidden’ images such as the one above…

While navigating Palm’s website a Treonaut (thank you Kyle) was able to decipher the location of this Treo image by simply replacing the location of an existing Treo 750v file with that of the Treo 750.

Existing: http://images.palmgear.com/external/swc/treo750v.gif
Hidden: http://images.palmgear.com/external/swc/treo750.gif [Update: the image has now been ‘swiftly’ removed by Palm…]

For now (unfortunately) we only get to see a Windows Mobile version and not a PalmOS version but rumours are that Cingular will release _both_ operating systems.

Treonauts are always finding hidden things

I spoke with our corporate Cingular rep today and she said a Windows Treo first quarter.

Not just rumors --- se my comment. The 750 is still there by the way. Too bad the Palm version is going to be crap -- we can tell by the fact that it is labelled 680.

I spoke to the Businees customer service of Orange (in Switzerland) last week and they told me that they were going to have a new Treo on Palm OS for mid-october.

No LED on the Cingular model?

6
by ron | Sep 22, 2006 9:50:29 PM

LED should be above the palm logo not above the distributor's logo... and anyways, the LED doesn't show up in the press image for the 750v either. go to palm.com and check out the vodaphone 750v image

Thanks a lot for the image link Jon (I wonder why I didn't think of that... ;-)

I really can't wait to get my hands on either a Treo 750p or 680p running on a GSM network...

Cheers, A.

I am not sure that I’m so impressed with all this windows stuff.
Palms OS has always been the reason I have loved to use the Palm pda’s and now Treo 650.
The Palm OS is so much better than any thing out there - what’s with this window fettish?
When is a “real” Treo upgrade with the palm OS due?
Nope, not impressed.

H, your love of the PalmOS is just as much of a fetish as my love of Windows Mobile. It's a matter of preference - just move on. I've said it a hundred times in these boards, we're here because we love Treo's... let's just celebrate that the family is expanding and users are growing rather than complaining about our personal dislikes for the new members.

My upgrade date is 7 January so the timing of these. And please let it be _these_ including a 750p and not _this_ just a Windows Mobile thang! Though, knowing me, I would probably make the leap to a 750w if that was the only option. And then, doubtless, regretting it.

I think people should just get out and ride the heck out of a dirt bike or a street bike on some country road and not be so concerned with computers, gadgets, or electronics. Let the batteries run out, look at the stars, play in the dirt, even if you are 40 years old like myself. I know...I know...you say you could get killed on a motorcycle...Thats true, but how do you know that wireless signal is not going to fry your brain?? Heck...everyone dies...not everyone lives! Put something exciting between your legs. Ride a bike!

Doug... that was hysterical! Andrew should hire you as a writer around here, you're good! :-)

Is it just me, or am I still waiting for the 700 up here in Canada while they're developing another Treo?

So is there not going to be a 750P??????

16
by Ryan | Sep 24, 2006 11:56:43 PM

The cingular reps I have been hounding on the 750 are telling me late November, but not to be shocked if it pushes to January either. Sooner the better..

No. Treonauts needs to realize that there is no such thing as the 750p. Once the 680 is out, thats it for the 4 new treos (700w/wx, 700p, 750v(and Cingular version) and the 680).

That is all they have been talking about since last year. We'll have to wait for an update from Palm before we expect any other new products. That won't happen till late this year and they likely won't foreshadow any phones that would stall purchases of these 4.

Will we ever have the good fortune of getting these phones in GSM anytime soon before new models start popping up???

I'm a Treo newbie and have been waiting for the 750 to come out on GSM for a while now.

What I keep hearing from Cingular and Verizon is that even if you own windows os on a Treo, it's easy to just change the OS to palm. It's just a simple s/w change.

Is this true? Are there significant differences between a "P" version and a "W" version? What are those differences?

20
by KitKat | Sep 25, 2006 11:28:26 AM

Of course I'm not asking about the fundamental differences between the two OS. I know that much.

Are there hardware differences? Significant proprietary thing that only one version has over the other that cannot be accessed through the other platform, etc. That is what I would like to know.

Thanks.

"I spoke with our corporate Cingular rep today and she said a Windows Treo first quarter. " Gerald post #1

Gerald, I also just received an e-mail back from my Cingular Business Rep. and she said November or December for a release date.

I don't actually think anyone will truly know with Cingular until a couple days to a week before when the Stores and Business Reps. start getting a lot of info from the Corp. office. Then the rumors will truly start to fly.

When the treo 650 came out I called my Bus. Rep. and she was able to order it even before they were announced and I received mine the day after the announcement. She was shocked that it was already in the system at the time but when the system took the order she was pretty confident that we would get them. My brother and I was the happiest guys in town. That is until it started crashing every couple of hours. But that is another story.

I wonder if the linux palms are coming out soon. They promised two years to get something out, right?

I really hope that the 750 comes before next year...

I hope on that cingular premier business site that the treo 750 gets released earlier than the regular site/store.

I ordered the cingular 8125 on the premier site like two weeks/a month before it was available.

My corporate Cingular rep told me today that there will not be a 750W until next year.
