Treo 700wx Available Now + Vodafone Taking Treo 750v Pre-Orders
After weeks of rumours Palm and Sprint finally released the Treo 700wx yesterday.
The Treo 700wx is identical in all respects to Verizon’s earlier Treo 700w to the exception of:
- More ‘Program Memory’ now up to 60MB which users have reported has significantly increased the speed and overall response time of this smartphone
- Minor software upgrades including ‘Soft Buttons’ like those found on PalmOS Treos have been added so that during a call you have the option to enable ‘Mute’ and ‘Speakerphone’ instead of having to access a complex menu
Key features of the Treo 700wx include:
-
Access to Email on the Go: Windows Mobile Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP), which includes Direct Push Technology, native S/MIME support, certificate-based authentication to all Exchange data, and remote and local device wipe, is available out-of-the-box giving Treo 700wx owners fast, automatic wireless updates of their email, calendar items, contacts and tasks. [This and also GoodLink services offers companies operating Microsoft Exchange servers the opportunity to quickly and cost effectively enable ‘Wireless Business Mobility’ for their workforce.]
-
Built-in Dial-up Networking (DUN) Capabilities: Treo 700wx smartphone users can take advantage of broadbandlike EvDO download speeds on their laptop computers by using the new smartphone as a wireless modem via USB technology. This out-of-the-box functionality offers an alternative to Wi-Fi, enabling users to access a high-speed connection in coffee shops, airports or hotels. [I have been actively using DUN and its EvDO speed with my Sprint Treo 700p and can categorically confirm that it is extremely FAST.]
-
Sprint Mobile Broadband Support: Sprint customers using the Treo 700wx have the benefit of the Sprint Power Vision Network which offers broadband-like download data speeds averaging up to 400-700 kbps. [Just like the speed provided in DUN, EvDO is equally useful and fast to access wireless data via your web browser or other application.]
Also, unfortunately some of the previous rumours mistakenly suggested that the Treo 700wx would have ‘threaded SMS’ and SprintTV built-in but it does not…

The other piece of good news is the fact that Vodafone UK has started taking pre-orders for its soon-to-be-launched Treo 750v smartphone to business customers via this web page. Particularly appealing is the fact that the cost of this latest Treo is set at “From Free to £127.66 (some $250)” considerably lower than the $299 to $499 typically found in the US…
Aside from a small image of the keyboard there are unfortunately still no official pictures that have been released – albeit we have already had plenty of leaks in this regard (see Vodafone Treo 750v: More & More Images).
As previously posted, Palm and Vodafone are due to officially announce the release of the Treo 750v in Europe this coming Tuesday, September 12 during a joint press conference to be held in London.
Treonauts are always pushing for the next generation…

No threaded SMS... Couldn't someone write an app (like chattermail, to use a rough analogy) that would do this?...
there is a threaded SMS app called SMS threader

It works great with the 700wx. The 700wx is so much faster than my 700p.
I did a dsl reports on it of a 1mb file and it came in at 1016 kbit/sec:)
So far my treo 750v has prooved to be unrelaible and very tricky to operate without many ,many problems.Even something as simple as bluetooth is unreliable on this Treo.
i tried it on my treo 700wx
but it says i need to reinstall CF2.0
which i already have
keeps giving error
any idea?
thanx
