Cingular Treo 750 Demo Unit In The Wild
While many Treonauts are now happily clutching their new PalmOS Treo 680 there are nonetheless others who are still anxiously awaiting the release of their Windows Mobile Treo 750 – rumoured to be launched by Cingular ‘very soon’.
I can’t yet tell you that I’m any closer to knowing the exact launch date (my best guess for now is around CES the second week of January) but at least it’s good to see (thank you Tunji) that Cingular is already distributing demo units to some of its stores like the one pictured here from Kansas City.
As always seems to be the case when a Treonaut excitedly snaps images of an unreleased Treo these images are again blurry… Nevertheless, aside from the Cingular logos we already know that this 750 will be pretty much identical to the 750v model recently launched by Vodafone in Europe – an antenna-less GSM Treo like the 680 but one which has the advantage of connecting to 3G networks.
Treonauts always clutch things first…

» Cingular may finally get some Windows based Treo love from Blog.Jonzee.Com
There has been some talk for a while that a Windows based Treo would be coming to Cingular but it just hasn't happened yet. Over at Treonauts, they have pictures of what looks to be a demo unit of the ... [Read More]

the life of a treonaut...
Does anyone know if Palm is planning to release a GSM unlocked version of the 750? And approximately when (ie which quarter)?
I have been waiting for the Treo 750 on Cingular for some time. I'm disappointed that it's Windows Mobile powered. Any word on a Palm OS version?
I agree. Have been waiting for 750 on Cingular with Palm OS version. Any idea when that might happen?
There are currently no plans to make a Treo 750 running PalmOS available. As you already know the newest Cingular PalmOS model is the Treo 680 and the only difference with the 750 (aside from the OS and colour) is the fact that the 750 can connect at 3G data speeds.
Cheers, A.
I just stopped at my local Cingular store in The Woodlands, Texas (north side of Houston). The had a "dummy" version of the 750 that they had just received and indicated that receiving the dummy meant it should be released within the next week or two. This is very consistent with the original post on this thread. They did not give any indication as to price.
I thought Cingular was launching their own high speed IE 3G in the USA. Is this true? If so will the 680 support it?
The "only" difference with the 750, from the 680, is that the 750 can connect at 3G data speeds? That's true, but that's hardly a small difference.
C'mon Palm, give us a 3G Palm OS phone that works on GSM networks. I'm not excited about the 240x240 screen, or running Windows.
(Yes, Cingular is launching a high speed 3G data network, and no, the 680 doesn't use it at full speed.)
From what I understand the reason behind why Palm OS cannot do broadband on GSM is due to the nature of broadband on GSM and a general issue with Palm OS. GSM broadband technology uses a separate radio and set of frequencies from the regular EDGE/voice service. Two radios, two different protocols (GSM/TDMA for voice and GPRS/EDGE and CDMA-like for broadband, how ironic). Apparently Palm OS can only handle one networking stack at a time. Now ignore GSM 3G and think about WiFi, which the Palm treo cannot do. Same issue, same limitation. Cannot be together working in tandem with the cell phone radio. (The hacks involve disabling the cell phone.)
So why is this not an issue for CDMA EVDO? EVDO is an extension of 1xRTT and runs using the same radio at the same frequencies as CDMA voice and 1x. Palm OS doesn't have a problem as long as only one networking driver is in play at one time, which is the case here.
The only thing we can hope for is that now that Palm has the source code back for Palm OS they can rectify this problem not only for "GSM" 3G, but also to allow WiFi and WiMAX to eventually work.
Looks like the 750v is being sold now..
Many people have been selling the 750v for quite some time. We are waiting for the 750w to be released from cingular.
The 750v is the vodafone version released in parts of Asia and Europe.
cmon gang, palm os sucks compared to Windows mobile 5+.
the updated cing. 8125 & 8525 work better than any model blackberry, and no one in a serious job can use palm to connect to the office.
palm is dead.
the treo's on vzn work great as well, an entire co. dropped their RIM jobs and are on Treo's. RIM releases more hotfixes than a polish ISP.
windows mobile5+ &free AS4+ is solid, direct push works great, awesome, no admin required if you set it up right.
a be-u-tiful thing.
oh palm forget about it.
palm is hopeless for real work.
Cingular will be selling the 750 for $399 with a 2 year contract and $650 with no contract. I saw the pricing sheet at a Cingular store yesterday. No word on availibility yet.
Does anyone know if the 680 or the 750 will allow you to send and receive emails while you are on the phone??
Rich,
I believe that the 750 will be able to, since it's on the 3G network, will can access voice and data at the same time.

I spoke with a Cingular representative the other day, and she told me it will be released on January 9th. So much for the rebate which lasts until December 31st, 2006.

Okay, I have been checking treonauts out for some info on which treo to get. I have to say, every google search I have done brings up this site!
Anyway, I will give some info on my needs, and I would be exremely grateful for any input you could give to help me in my purchase.
I am a middle school teacher, and I am also working on my master's degree-and I will be taking 3 classes while teaching full time in the spring. I desperately need some help with organization.
My cell is also my home phone, so my treo will be used as a full time phone. I am also intrigued by the ability to surf the net, and adding my mp3's.
I had originally decided on the treo 680, which I was just going to buy at cingular (I really don't want to extend my contract). Then I discovered the copper 680-which I love the color options (my cingular guy said they are "supposed" to be getting the copper 680). Well then the Cingular guy pulls out the 750 (I am assuming it was a dummy-he said they should have it on Jan. 8th) and tells me that it would be my best option because of the windows mobile. I don't know if WM is better than Palm OS because I have never owned a smart phone! I have noticed this is a heavily debated topic (which is better) but I would appreciate any suggestions on which might better fit my needs. Price is also an issue-the noncontract price on the 750 they quoted me at cingular was $649.99! I would like suggestions regardless of price. Thanks!
Treo 750 will be shipping on 1/8. $449 with 2 year commitment and a PDA data plan. $650 without commitment
im trusting you on that one intheknow, you sound pretty damn serious!
does anyone know if you can listen to your DVD's through the bluetooth headset or only the earbuds provided by the 700 but also the new 750 coming out by Sprint hopefully next month? thanks
new to this site but love the discussions - a friend of mine works for sprint and says the 750 will be coming out hopefully next month so an upgrade from the 600 sounds in order, finally.
okay, well this does seem like a great informative website, i guess only if you are a true "treonaut." i thought this would be a great place to get some advice on which treo to get-instead i got a sarcastic requoting of the price i had listed (which was off by one cent!)
so much for helpful advice from anyone here...
you only seem to help each other.
it's okay-i decided what to get on my own- an iphone!
