Covertec Horizontal Treo Case Review
Covertec may very well be one of the oldest companies making high quality Treo cases and this particular model shown here – the Covertec Horizontal Case – has been in production for years but until recently only in Black, Tan and Red.
Coinciding with the recent launch of the Treo 680 (which is now even available for FREE) the company has ‘refreshed’ its range to not only match the colours of the Crimson (red), Arctic (white) and Copper (orange) versions of the Unlocked Treo 680 (shown above top) but also all other Treo smartphones since the Covertec Horizontal Case is actually a ‘Universal’ Treo case that fits all models.
The design of the Covertec Horizontal Case has gone virtually unchanged since its first inception. A unique undulating ‘taco’ shape, high quality leather, very strong rotating leather belt clip, bottom opening to easily remove your Treo, thick interior lining and padding as well as a magnetic ‘signature’ button latch have all combined to make this a very highly rated case. The new colours now also add some fun to the mix.
Nevertheless, I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed with Covertec’s Treo cases range. The main issue with this particular model is that the round magnetic button that Covertec uses on all of its cases is simply not strong enough and way too messy to fit properly compared to the much easier system of the bestselling SPE P6 Pouch Case for example. The company could fix this very easily by designing a new ‘decorative’ button that simply covers the magnet instead of require it to be fitted perfectly in the hole but they have not done so to date.
Additionally, it has become clear that the overwhelming preference of Treonauts is for cases to be as small and thin as possible while retaining the protective factor. In this regard, the Covertec Horizontal Case is not only nearly 4cm thick (excluding the belt clip above) but also some 13.5cm wide (with the Treo inserted below) compared to the 11.5cm x 2.4cm of the SPE UltraSlim Pocket Pouch for example. Then again my ‘bigness’ may be someone else’s ‘boldness’.
Having said all this, there is no doubt that the Covertec Horizontal Case is quite unique, comfortable to wear, offering very good if somewhat bulky protection for your Treo and now that it’s available in these additional bright colours it will be rather hard to misplace it…
Separately, if you are a new Treo 680 owner and are currently looking to find a case please read my Treo 680 Case Of Cases review.
Treonauts always select the best range…

That's what I was thinking George.
BTW...Nobody ever talks about the Treo 750...so I am asking Andrew again. Do you have an release date information available?
I've owned one of these from when I first got a Treo 600 (3 years). I have to say that it has been a great case and I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Only problem, it still works great- even though I've got a 700p now... Magnet clip works just fine- my Treo only fell out once when I was chasing my son around on a campout. My opinion is it is not too big and is a well designed case (aesthetically and functionally).
Yeah, I agree, not a pretty case. Although we must give them brownie points for the color range. I like a soft leather case, either flip-top or slim book case - no clips (lots of women want a slim, soft leather case to slip into a purse or briefcase, not a bulky clip style!) And of course it must come in pink or other colors - do the case manufacturers not know that women own Treos?!! Waiting for more case choices for the 680.
A-
When I first got a Treo 600, I bought a beautiful leather case from Covertec that had a clear plastic covering on the front that covered the entire phone (from screen to keyboard). I like to keep my Treo in my pocket and this was perfect because it prevented lint, etc from getting into the keyboard and on the screen. I am so frustrated that they no longer offer this model. When I got my 650, I actually had to burn a new hole in the leather due to the reposition of the microphone (sounds odd, but it worked great). Am I the only Treonaut that likes the plastic protection for the entire front of the phone??
