SPE Universal SafeGuard Treo Holster Review
Following my recent review of the latest Palm Treo Leather Holster Case and also the model-specific Treo 680 Cases Of Cases I’m glad to say that there is finally a new holster that will comfortably fit and protect _all_ existing Treo models and the first that will perfectly fit your Treo 680.
The new Smartphone Experts SafeGuard Holster pictured here meets all of the requirements that a top Treo holster should have including a sturdy top latch, solid holder and a large ratcheting (7 positions) belt clip – features which have undoubtedly helped it to already quickly become the #1 bestselling holster.
However, what really sets the SPE SafeGuard Holster apart from the rest is the fact that it introduces an innovative bonding of two materials – a strong plastic outer shell (below right) and a rubber interior (below left). The rubber interior (detail outline above in yellow) has been specifically added to ensure that your Treo does not get scratched when repeatedly inserting and removing it in the holster over time.
While the detailing of the SafeGuard Holster may be a bit ‘plain utilitarian’ its overall shape (below left) nonetheless has a rather fun twist to it looking almost lifelike. More importantly as I mentioned earlier the body, top latch and bottom holders combine to provide an extremely tight and comfortable fit for your Treo – including the Treo 680 pictured here below on the right.
Finally, as with all other Treo holsters the SafeGuard model provides easy access to all connectors including the headset jack (to listen to music for example) and power while also leaving the speakerphone exposed on the outside so as to better hear ringing incoming calls.
Lastly, the large swivel belt clip makes it easy to move the Treo around your waist and is always within easy reach when you need to answer, make a call or simply use your Treo.
Separately, I’d like to wish all those Treonauts who will be away this long weekend a Very Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year 2007!!!
Treonauts always safeguard their beloved…

While this appears to be one of he best cases yet... has anyone tested it with the new 3200mAh extended battery? Will it fit?
As a reluctant 700W user (my company's pushmail only works with the "W"), it drains batteries faster than any previous Treo. That said, the Broadband speed offered by Verizon it really nice. I mean, it is really really fast!
Anyone know what holster WILL work well with the new 3200 mAh battery?

M.J. - I did not include a picture of it but yes I also happened to have tested the case with the new 3200mAh battery and I'm happy to report that it worked perfectly well.
Cheers, A.
This case looks very nice, but does anyone know if there is a CrystalCase out there like the one that came out for the 650 that was reviewed on Treonauts? I had that case and it was the best case ever...hands down.
Is there one available for the 680 yet?
I know there were issues with these type of cases (specifically the clips) negatively interacting with the SD card. Can you report whether or not the clip hits the SD card while mounting or dismounting the Treo?
Hi Androw,
Is very good site. tell me, does hoslter fit all treo model or just 680? can I use with 650? If no, whihc do you recommend fo rme, which is mdoel that I have.
Thanks to you very much,
Yoursa
Hi Andrew!
Thanks for the review!
were you able to test this holster out,
on a skinned treo 680?
I am interested in the Seidio combo,
when they come out for the treo 680,
but have read mixed reviews.
This holster looks really good!
Thanks!
What color is it? In some of the photos the holster looks electric blue (kind of cool, actually) and in other photos it's black.
I bought this for the 680 on the basis of this review, but returned it due to a poor fit. (And the Treonauts folks were wonderful about rapidly crediting my card and responding by e-mail.) There is no way a holster like this could properly fit every Treo model from the 600 to the 750. In fact the Treo review at this site has a chart showing how the 680 is thinner, especially at the top and bottom, than the 700p. In this holster, the 680 rattles back and forth at the top rather than being held snugly by the latch. I do like the rubberized coating, though. and will seriously consider this holster if a model sized specifically for the 680 comes out soon.
Based on the gushing praise above I bought this holster a week ago. At first blush it seemed a bit flimsy; more like a prototype than an actual product. That first impression came home to roost a few days later when I was getting out of the car. I heard a crack and then heard my Treo fall to the pavement and skid down under the car. I was left with a bunch of pieces of plastic in my lap.
My opinion -- nice prototype design but not ready for primetime. If it was made out of a durable plastic instead of this flimsy stuff they're using, they'd have a good product.
My Seidio Spring Clip Swivel Holster for my 700p has held up so far for the 3 months I've had it. The Seidio clip is hinged and a spring holds it down (hence it's name, I assume).
From the photos of the SPE Safeguard holster, it looks like the clip is not hinged, just a solid extension of the holster. Could flexing the clip to insert and remove your phone cause the clip to break off? Comment #9, this what happened to you?
How well does the '7 position ratchet' work? I've purchased and discard too many of these holsters that have too loose of a swivel.
It needs to be tight enough that normal use won't turn the unit sideways or upside down.
TIA
Al
