SPE UltraSlim Executive Leather Treo Pouch Review

Since the day of my first SPE UltraSlim Pocket Leather Pouch review this Treo Case has without a doubt become one of my favourites and I actually use it daily – particularly now in the winter season when I’m typically wearing a jacket or coat and I can easily slip my Treo in and out of the case to make or take a call.

Treo Case SPE Executive UltraSlim Leather Pouch

The SPE UltraSlim Treo case has been updated and is now available in a total of six colours (pictured above) with a universal fit to accomodate all Treo smartphones as well as to specifically match the Arctic, Crimson and Copper coloured Treo 680 (see below).

Before I go further into my review however I have to point out that Treonauts’ opinion on the UltraSlim case seems to be markedly divided between those who dislike it and those like me who absolutely love it.

Treo Case SPE Executive UltraSlim Leather Pouch

The only reason for the negative comments appears to be the overall “fit” as some people have complained that the Treo is NOT held firmly inside the case which means that if held upside down your smartphone will likely fall out.  I fully understand why some people may find this less than ideal but I have personally found that it is precisely because my Treo is not held firmly in place that I like the case so much – it is the only way that you can comfortably retrieve your smartphone with only _one_ hand instead of two thus helping to very quickly have access to it.

Perhaps more importantly there is one fact that nobody disputes.  Namely, the SPE UltraSlim is extremely well built with an ultra slim leather profile (below), an ultra thin and ultra light body as well as superb leather and stitching details – essentially it’s a very high quality leather case at a terrific price in this category.

Additionally, if you happen to own an antenna-less Treo 680 or Treo 750 you will also be able to insert your smartphone upside down so as to like me conveniently listen to music while on the go with my retractable headsets (below).

Overall, if like me you’re looking for an elegant, well built and ultralight protective leather case for your Treo and actually welcome the fact that you will be able to easily retrieve your smartphone one-handed then the SPE UltraSlim Executive Leather Pouch will prove ideal and a terrific buy.

If however you are in the camp that would prefer to have an “ultratight” fit then I can suggest simply adding the new Seidio Super Slim Hard Case (that I reviewed last week) which I accidentally found fits perfectly inside the SPE UltraSlim (see image below) but as I mentioned you’ll need your two hands to get it out though…

Finally, if the SPE UltraSlim case is simply not your type of case there is no doubt that with over 100 Treo Cases to choose from in the Treonauts Accessory Shop you’ll always find at least one to perfectly fit your budget, taste and protection needs.

Treonauts always find their perfect fit

I 'abuse' the case daily and it is showing significant wear. I'm somewhat disappointed it the sharp edged 'plastic' stiffener use in under the thin leather. It cuts through th stitching at the open mouth side and even after trimming is difficult to repair. Anyone else having this problem or am I an anomaly?

Here's the link with Treo 700p photo (shaky as it is) over on the forum in the "Other Accessories" area.

RichC - it certainly does look like you've 'abused' your case daily...

I personally feel that you're very much an anomaly as I also use my case daily and it's still in pristine condition.

Please email me with your order number and I will get a replacement unit shipped to you.

Cheers, A.

Andrew,
You say you like the fit precisely due to the fact you can remove it with one hand? No way are you going to convince me that this case was designed for true one handed use. Nevertheless, the case looks great feels great as you pointed out, but I still returned both. I had the original and purchased the latest one thinking they actually improved the fit. I am now just carrying in my right front pocket with nothing else in the pocket to avoid scratches, and that is truely a one handed option. I can even put it in my front pocket upside down with or without an antenna and use a wire headed set.

leathernuts - as I pointed out, opinions will be divided on this case...

For quick one-handed Treo retrieval I simply always carry the case upright in a breast pocket and I'm able to easily remove it with one hand - something which no other case in this category allows me to do(precisely because they are too tight).

Additionally, knowing that it will slide out if held upside down I simply avoid doing that and keep the case upright...

Cheers, A.

Question is, is this new model thinner than the previous one so it's not so lose for the Treo 680

Sadly I'm going to have to jump on the "not as good as I'd hoped" bandwagon. I bought the case a couple of months ago and was initially disapointed that it was looser than I had wanted. Then after about a month the top of the case started to break down and the plastic part began to break through the leather part.

Probably worth mentioning that I still use the case every day and it is still one of the best cases I've bought for my palm but it really isn't as wonderful as advertised.

Why was my comment edited? There is stuff left out that I wrote, thats funny. Nothing offensive, just a point. Oh well....

Trur Andrew, some will love it and some will hate it. I personally wanted to love it, but it just didn't work out. Either way, I still appreciate your reviews.

It is my favorite case and I love it. I currently own two colors and am about to order two more!

Thank Andrew ... a case arrived today. 3/23/2007 Stitching is much better.

I just got this case and when I'm pulling the phone out to answer a call, it pushes a button and answers the call while its coming out of the case. Don't think that's going to work for me.

I'm having the same problem that RichC did with this case. It's disappointing, since this seemed like the best option out there for me.
