SPE Leather Treo 680 Hardcase Review
The best Treo leather hard case that I had tested to date was the Vaja i-Volution but it nonetheless suffers from the fact that it’s expensive ($79.99) and takes a patience-busting 6–7 weeks to ship.
Now thanks to the new SPE Leather Hardcase for the Treo 680 and 750 I’ve found a case that offers a very similar Vaja design and build quality at nearly a third of the price while also being available immediately.
The SPE Leather Hardcase consists of a compact form-fitting shell (above right) that has been entirely covered in fine grain leather on the outside while the inside is fully lined in suede. You simply need to slide your Treo 680 or Treo 750 in through the top and the pressure of the case ensures a perfect and snug fit.
Both the side buttons, top mute slider and SD card slot remain fully accessible thanks to the large and wide side openings. Additionally, cutouts for the speaker and indicator light at the front as well as the camera and speakerphone at the back and connectors at the bottom offer full access to your Treo functionality.
I was also particularly glad to see that although the side profile of the SPE Leather Hardcase is slightly raised it does not interfere at all with daily keyboard typing because it curves slightly outwards (image below left) leaving plenty of space for your fingers to reach all the keys effortlessly.
The SPE Leather Hardcase also offers an elegant and fairly slim fully removable rotating (360 degrees) belt clip. However, because I personally like to use this type of case without a belt clip I would have preferred to have the small circular belt clip attachment (below right) built inside the case instead of protruding out about 1.5mm. Then again I may simply be too anxious to have a non-belt clip version which may be released in the coming weeks.
Overall the SPE Leather Hardcase provides a very elegant and well built solution to protect your Treo and certainly provides and excellent alternative to the much more expensive Vaja model.
Treonauts are always looking for good alternatives…

I don't know why you'd prefer the SPE leather hardcase when one of the most vulnerable parts of the Treo is its screen. I purchased the Sena leather magnetflipper case, which is also slim, nice quality leather, and protects both the keyboard and case.
I just bought one of these and received it last week. I really like it and find the quality to be very good. I thought I too wouldn't care about the belt clip functionality but found I've been using it all the time. Truly a nice case.
By any chance would this case fit over a 680 with extended battery and back?
ehw + Orlando: this case offers a custom fit for the Treo 680 and will therefore not work with the Treo 600 and also not with the 2400 extended battery and cover.
Cheers, A.
like mine. It looks just as nice and has the beltclip with the same setup. However, this puppy is snug but a big pain in the rear if your device freezes and you need to get to the battery compartment to reset. You have to pry it out. Don't know about the one here but I would wager it is the same deal because of the pressure the shell uses to stay on the device.
Can someone suggest a formfitting case for the Treo 750 that takes the 2400 extended battery and cover? Is there something out there or is there something coming? Given the short battery life of the 750 and fact that many folks will go for the 2400 battery, certainly there exists a demand here!
