Palm Desktop 6.2 Beta for Windows Vista Available
Treonauts who have recently upgraded the OS on their PC to Windows Vista will undoubtedly be glad to hear that Palm has finally released its first Beta version of a Vista-compatible Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager 7 software.
The software includes the Install Tool which allows you to sync .prc and .pdb files (Treo software and databases) to your smartphone as well as synchronization support using your USB sync cable for Outlook 2007’s Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes.
However, there are still certain limitations. Among others, if a Palm OS application or device update uses a desktop wizard to guide you through the installation process, the wizard relies on the Palm Quick Install Tool, which is not available in this beta version. You will not be able to install Treo software that is packaged in this manner. (I’m still trying to figure out what this actually means…)
Additionally, I should point out that this latest version of Palm Desktop is only available in English and strictly recommended for Windows Vista and not for other Windows versions such as XP or 2000. Compatible smartphones include the Treo 650, 680, 700p and latest Treo 755p but not the Treo 600.
I expect this Beta version to remain unchanged for at least a month after which I hope that Palm will be a able to provide a full and final Palm Desktop update for Windows Vista free from the current limitations.
Separately, if you own a Windows Mobile powered Treo 750 or Treo 700w|wx you may want to install Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista.
Treonauts always want the latest updates…

I still don't understand how the Palm Desktop version that's out there fails to work on Vista. I use it all the time for installing to Palm devices for testing purposes.. Quick Install works fine.
Do I have some magical power?
I didn't see anything mentions for the 750 unless I missed that in reading.
It didn't say 750, but the 750 is a windows powered treo so you would use the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista
I think Andrew's made a typo, it should read :-

Ooops... I've now made the Treo 750 correction. As Malkantar points out if you own a Treo 750 you'll want to use the Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista.
Cheers, A.

Attempts to get help from Palm have not proved helpful. If someone out there has an answer or suggestion, please e-mail me at [email protected]
Thank you.
I have a palm centro is is ruby red. I have a Mac it is pretty and silver, I have an HP running windows vista, it displays millions of color when I turn it on. I live in a colorful world. I have a job and two very demanding hobbies. Where am I susposed to be let me look at my Mac- Blue must be work today, orange tommrow must be a hockey game. My Palm helps me run my life. But my Mac is upstairs- let me look on the HP in the kitchen. Hmmm... where am I susposed to be? There is no color oh no I have gone color blind, the cones and rods in my eyes that aloow me to see color have suddenly stopped working!!!!!!! Oh my God. I call my eye doctor and after sseveral test we discover that my eyes are OK, no the problem is that Palm has no brain. All I see on the web are reports of the lacking of one simple thing- how hard can it be?
I have an order Sony Clie with Palm 5.0. I upgraded to Vista and my sofware disk is not compatable. I was able to load the original Palm 4.2 desk top but my Clie will not sync. Will the 6.2 desktop work? The most important part in my address book.
If you have Windows XP do not use the new Palm Desktop 6.2. I have a Palm TIX. Constant reinstall of desktop and all applications added everytime there is a windows update. OEM desktop never had an issue. Palm needs to get rid of these ACCESS programmers. They are only Vista beaners. Also I like to use the color feature for my categories. Another thing gone. Plus..note pad is not working either. Just a note to anybody who may read this.
