Palm Centro News Updates
It appears that my post last week which hinted at a possible Palm Centro Euro Launch on Sept 12 may not have been quite on the mark as a short and fun post on Palm’s blog notes that although there will indeed be a new smartphone launch in Europe this Wednesday it will not be the Centro…
It is certainly a welcome surprise to see that Palm is finally adding its voice online to help us make better sense of all the rumours floating around particularly as more leaked images of the Centro (below compared to the BlackBerry Pearl) keep surfacing both in Europe and the US.
To date we do know that the Centro will definitely be launched by Sprint in the US within the next couple of months (possibly on October 14) and that it will feature a black and silver design (see Palm Centro Official Image), slimmer body as well as smaller screen and keyboard.
Additionally, information gathered from Sprint’s Q4 roadmap this weekend (image below) hints that the Centro will feature Sprint TV and Sprint Music Store access, Sprint Mobile Email, Google Maps, VersaMail, a new client called Sprint Instant Messaging, PocketTunes Deluxe media player, and a 1.3 megapixel camera.
Given the fact that the Centro is expected to become available for only $99 with nearly all of the same applications and functionality as the rather more expensive Treo 755p I certainly feel that it could prove to be an extremely successful device.
In the meantime, the mysterious new Palm smartphone due to be launched this Wednesday in Europe is most likely going to be a Windows Mobile 6 version device which shares the same form factor as the Centro but we’ll just have to wait a little bit longer to find out exactly what Palm has in store for us…

OK, so why would anyone buy a Treo 755p for $250 when the Centro will be available for $99, with a smaller form factor?
Other than the "very very small keys" and "itsy bitsy screen" factor, is there any functional difference between the 755p and Centro?
yes, but i'm just hoping they dont cut the ram/rom down considerably... with flash chips prices coming down so much they can afford to put over 64mb in a darn smartphone... I dont understand what the hold-up is!
I give kudos to Palm for the turnaround in the last month but wish they'd give us hardcore users a glimpse of their top-of-the-line replacement. My Treo 650 is severely out of date and with the price drop of the iPhones (and the fact that there's an unlock now), it's getting pretty tempting to pick one up over the holidays.
Where's your iPhone killer Palm? Didn't you hire a former iPod designer to help out (and I hope to God they weren't responsible for the Centro)?

Official ad for the Palm Treo 500 aka Palm Gandolf.
The ad mentions Sprint TV --- but I didn't think you could use Sprint TV on Windows Mobile devices -- I thought it was only Palm OS
also 500 vs 755 -- if this doesn't have a touch screen, that makes a huge difference
Yo palm i love u but when r u gonna come out with a palm with gps enable? I'm still waiting. I was hoping this was it but as i can see not one of the features whats up with that?
When is Verizon going to come out with a new Treo?! Come on now I'm tired of using my Treo 650 and want a new Treo now!!!
