6GB micro SDHC Centro Memory Card

Centro MemoryTreonauts who recently upgraded to the new Palm Centro may have been mildly disappointed by the smaller relative memory capacity of microSDHC compared to other smartphones which use the larger standard SD or SDHC slot (such as my Treo 680).

Until recently the largest capacity microSDHC cards for Centronauts peaked at 4GB but thankfully SanDisk has released a new 6GB microSDHC memory card that can be used with your Centro.  I also particularly like the fact that this kit conveniently includes a microSD-to-SD adapter as well as the Micromate USB 2.0 reader (my favourite).

Although SanDisk have not yet made any announcements, it is expected that 8GB microSDHC cards will become available by the end of the year as well.

While I’m naturally delighted with this 6GB microSDHC memory card I have to admit that it will be hard for me not to be jealous of those keeping a Treo with a full SD slot as 16GB SDHC cards should become available very soon…  Overall though I’m more than happy to make the compromise of using microSDHC for the greater benefit of having the much smaller and lighter form factor of the Centro in my hands.

The missing link here is the Micro-to-Mini adapter. My 750 uses Mini and I want to buy Micro to future-proof my data. The Micro-to-Standard would require card to reader to laptop to reader to card...

Is there a 4gig mini SDHC available for a Treo 755p. Thanks

L3,

The SanDisk package includes the micro to mini as well. You get the micro with a mini slotted case so that you can put it into a mini slot. They give you those two pieces with a little plastic case to carry either or both, as well as the mini to USB reader pictured above. I bought the 6GB, which I use mostly as a micro on an AT&T Tilt, but I popped mine with the mini adapter into my Treo 680, and it read it just fine. I'm not sure, however, if all 6GB would be addressable to launch palm apps on the Treo, I have only done that with my 2GB mini card.

6gb SD memory cards are great, but I am more concern with speed. I purchased a 2gb 133x to replace my old san disk 2gb 6x card. Oh my god, what a difference. I think the SD card memory is faster than the internal memory!

Why does the Centro technical details on the Palm website say "up to 4GB supported", if there isn't a built-in limitation? http://www.palm.com/us/products/smartphones/centro/specs.html
Either that's incorrect and will cause people to buy smaller cards than they could, or people who read this page and buy larger cards will be disappointed when they don't work with the Centro.

I am also curious about the memory card. I would hate to buy the 8 gig only to have it not work.

I just got a 4GB SDHC card, and while the Centro could read and write to it without a problem, it had problems deleting files. It takes about 5 minutes to delete a file from the card (yes, I timed it). While researching what was going on, I formatted by old 2GB SD card (non-HC) as a FAT32 device, and it exhibited the same behavior. When I formatted it back to FAT(16), it worked fine. You apparently can't format a HC card as FAT(16), or at least if you do, you lose almost all its capacity.

Has anyone heard of this problem?

I just bought a SanDisk 16 gb SDHC card for my Centro, and the Centro is saying the card only has 2.9 gb capacity. Do I need to reformat the card, or is the Centro just not capable of reading something that big?
