I can’t think of too many things that make me happier than finding a truly great new product and the focus of my attentions and winner of my affections on this occasion is the superb new Jabra SP5050 (image below).

Jabra SP5050

The Jabra SP5050 has proven to be not only the most stunningly designed Bluetooth speakerphone (truly an object of beauty) that I have come across to date but also the one with the best performance and audio quality – a combination which makes the Jabra SP5050 the best value Bluetooth speakerphone available today.

Jabra SP5050 - Profile

Housed in an ultralight (only 75 grams) and ultraslim body with a silver band outlining the front, a high quality matt black plastic case and black glossy acrylic cover where the various indicator lights are and a fine steel clip all contribute to make the Jabra SP5050 one of the most elegant devices in my Treo accessory kit.

Jabra SP5050 - SpeakerA very large front speaker and microphone captures your voice so well that most of my callers could hardly (or not at all) tell that I was on a speakerphone and one of them actually purchased a unit immediately following my test call.  The noise cancellation is surprisingly excellent with no outgoing audio distortion at all even with my window and sunroof open in the car and the stereo playing fairly loudly in the background.  I even tried the unit outdoors with a helicopter passing overhead and my caller wasn’t exposed to the noise at all – very impressive.

Jabra SP5050 - Volume ButtonTwo large buttons on either side (image left) provide easy access to the volume Up/Down.  At maximum volume the speaker is loud enough to easily hear people speaking under even the noisiest conditions.

Additionally, I also like the ease with which you turn the Jabra SP5050 On/Off by simply pressing the front face of the unit just where the Jabra logo is located.  This can also be used for advanced functions where for example a quick double-click will Redial your last number called.  Smartly the unit also automatically turns off 15 minutes after it has lost the connection to your Treo while providing an impressive 12 hours talk time and up to 200 hours standby time.

Jabra SP5050 Charger

Given how much I like the Jabra SP5050 my only disappointment is that you are limited to charging the unit with the included car charger (pictured above) and not via USB or a wall charger.  It’s not a big deal for people who are likely only going to use it in the car but just that little bit more difficult for those who would also like to use the Jabra SP5050 as an office Bluetooth speakerphone – something that it does very well.

Jabra SP5050 - Mounted

Overall I really love my new Jabra SP5050 and can’t stop raving about it.  It’s an impressive Bluetooth speakerphone (understatement) that I have absolutely no difficulty awarding my “Editor’s Choice” – it works flawlessly, is extremely simple to use and the fact that it also looks stunning just happens to be a very nice bonus.

The only reason I didn't purchase this product is the connector on the charger. I have been purchasing phones and accessories compatible with mini-USB chargers and am happy with the reduced numbers of chargers indoors and in vehicles. When will all manufacturers open up and make it convenient for all of us?

Yes, it does work with the sony k750i. I just bought mine today and it works well. I will try it during my morning commute. There does seem to be a quirk.. When not on the phone, the bluetooth will connect/disconnect every 15 secs or so. It's kinda nnoying. It's not a powersaving issue since the power saving mode is off.

Ok, i just tried it on my iPhone and the connection is solid after a call. On the k750i, the connection disconnects and reconnects constantly. Sounds like an issue with the k750i...

I just bought the unit at Costco with coupon for $49. It came with the in-car charger and the wall charger adapter, it took a couple of hours to charge for the first time and I've used it for a day with amazing results paired with my Moto Krzr. I highly recommend.

I bought one these units a Costco and returned it because the sound quality was so poor. The sound on a call, from the driver's perspective, was very good. However, from the caller's (outside of he car) perspective the sound was terrible. I heard a lot of road noise, etc. Also, when first connecting with the unit there were odd noises and I kept asking the driver, "is that you, can you hear me." I returned the unit to Costco for a refund after about 10 days of use.

Anyone know how to get the 5050 to work with the SGH-A707

I bought the unit the other day and used it on the way home. It had a good charge in it. I have an LG 8300 phone and had no problems pairing it, also I made a call to another LG phone and he heard me perfectly as I heard him the same. I recommend this device to everyone I know.

Got two @ Costco recommended by my daughter. Question? After paring, using and leaving the car for more than 15 minues, to you have to turn the unit back "on" each time you enter the car?

The SP5050 works great with my Razor, but I can't get it to work with my Treo 680. When I enter the code it pairs up then says disconnecting, but I can't get it to work. It seems to be pairing, then fails.
Can anyone help?

Did anyone find out if the jabra sp5050 works with the Nokia 6133?

I still haven't seen the answer to:

"Does the Jabra 5050 work with any Bluetooth capable phone ?"

I picked up the Jabra SP5050 at Costco today, and I'm really impressed by the design and the sound. No one I called today even realized that they were on speakerphone or a bluetooth connection. (Much better than my previous Motorola bluetooth ear piece which callers constantly complained about until I just shelved it.) One caller lost a few words when I was going full speed on a bumpier part of the freeway, but other than that this device performed beautifully. I love how small it is, and though it comes with a car charger you supposedly get 12 hours of talk time/700 hours of standby time on a fully charged battery.

In response to Donald's question, for what it's worth, the packaging states that it "Works with most Bluetooth enables mobile phones." It works great with my Treo 700p.

We just purchased a Motorola T505 speakerphone that you can also hear within your car's radio speakers, however, my husband drives a truck all day and it is difficult to hear.. Anyone have any input on the Motorola T505 model in comparison with this Jabra SP5050 model?
Thanks

Does anyone have any experience with the Jabra SP5050 and the Palm Treo 700W. I'm interested in knowing what the sound quality is on both ends of the call.

Thanks,

Hugh

saw one response that someone had good iPhone results. Is that consistent across the board or has anyone had trouble getting their iPhone to work well with the SP5050? I want the device solely for the car.
Thanks

You can pick up a wall charger for an LG VX4500 that will work with this speaker phone. I found mine by searching for "SP5050 AC adapter". Prices range from .61 to about 3.00 for a wall charger. I just got my Jabra for Fathers Day!!!! Now I can charge it and use it anywhere

I purchased a Jabra SP5050. I haven't had a chance to use the item yet as I have been very sick with cancer, however, after having purchasing it I realized I could not purchase an AC adapter....for me that is a real drawback. I am not clear as to why they chose not to provide this...it makes it much more difficult for me to use. In this respect I am very disappointed.

Everything I read here seems to positive. I read the review a couple of months ago and went right out and bought two of them. One for me and one for my wife. Trouble is, I can barley hear anyone. I guess they hear me, but with the sound all the way up I can't hear anything while driving. It isn't much better just sitting in the car. Nice design, nice buttons, good functionality, no volume.

Why not buy the adaptor for car charger-plug to wall- plug at Radio Shack? I have one and when I plug it in to the wall outlet, I can plug in ANY device that has a (cigarete lighter) car plug on to it and it charges the device. It is cheap too.

In reference to the Jabra SP5050, what happen if both my wife and my phone is paired with it and we both receive a call? Does the first caller cancel the other one out? Is there any experience with this?
