Treo and Centro Cradle - InnoDock Junior Cradle Review

Overall I consider Palm’s Treo Cradle Kit to be an excellent choice and the one that I use to charge my smartphone and its battery at my desk and by my bedside.

Having said this however the Treo Cradle Kit is not ideal if you use a skin case, hard case or even some of the other leather cases and don’t want to have the hassle to remove it every time you plug your device into the cradle.  This is where the Seidio InnoDock Cradle (pictured below) comes in.

Treo and Centro Cradle

Centro CradleThe combination of a wide base and tilting charging/HotSync connector means that the Seidio InnoDock Cradle provides plenty of room for even the thickest Treo cases or Centro cases without the need to remove them before being docked to charge but equally effective without any case as well (pictured on the right with my Centro).

From a design perspective, the spherical “bubble” shaped Seidio cradle certainly will not look out of place on even the most modern desks.  The front of the cradle provides a charging indicator light and a HotSync button to make it easy to backup all of your data on a regular basis.

The InnoDock cradle connects to your laptop or PC via an included USB cable from which it draws power to charge your smarpthone.  You could also add a USB Wall Adapter to charge it without the need for a PC.

An important note is also that the Seidio InnoDock Cradle for Treo 755p, 750 has just been released to specifically fix an issue where the cradle was not properly charging these two smartphones.  Apparently, although the Treo 755p and Treo 750 share exactly the same charging connector as other Treo smartphones their internal circuitry is different and this new cradle now charges them properly.

The only complaint I have about this cradle, is that after a few months of heavy hotsync usage, the hotsync button on the cradle no longer works. So now, I am forced to initiate the sync through my phone each time. Other than that, I really liked this product. I never really used the audio-out feature but I'm sure it works ok as well.

Andrew, do you reflexively delete all critical comments of your blog? Is it impossible for users to voice their sentiments freely here?

My Palm cradle worked fine. I purchased a Seidio case only to learn that I had to buy their dock as my Treo no longer fit in the Palm dock. After buying the Seidio dock, I have never once been able to get it to work. I always get a "USB Device Not Recognized" message. After hours online with a Sedio tech, it still doesn't work. He blamed it on other things and Seidio will not respond to my request for a refund.

I use a Seido and had to pull it apart after a bout a year to resolder the connections as the wires that flex back and forth broke. Now the hot sync is not always working so I am thinking of getting the palm cradle.

I'm having the same problem as Tom above - UBS DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED. Any ideas???

I called Seidio and actually resolved the problem of the device not being recognized. The tech guy had my sync once with the OEM cable. Then I plugged the InnoDock into that same USB port and it didn't give me the error message. Further, with a Centro, push down on the left side (looking at the device) as that's the data contact and the devide is not heavy enough to make a good contact on its own.

VIOLA!

it looks and feels nice. however, mine stopped working after a few days. Windows stopped recognizing it ("unrecognized USB device error"). it couldn't sync. it even stopped charging altogether, even with the screen off. originally, with the screen on, it charged very weakly, so that the battery drained slower than it would without plugging it in. resync'ing with the OEM cable did nothing.

also, even when working, there is no way to plug in audio to listen to the device with headphones while in the cradle, unless you have bluetooth headphones. there is no audio connection into or out of the cradle. the device physically obstructs plugging in an audio cable directly from the Treo when docked. this sucks if you are planning to use it in a train, plane, coffee shop, library, or just about anywhere else but a quiet, private room.

i bought this device from Seidio, based on being a long-time satisfied user of their Treo holsters. based on what i am now reading on their electronic equipment, i would not buy Seidio products again.
