Blue Centro = Verizon Centro ?

While the Sprint Centro has been available for a while in Red, Black as well as Pink, the AT&T Centro was just released last week in White (with green/white keyboard) and will soon also be available in Black (see below).

Sprint AT&T Color Range

Now thanks to a smart new online Palm Self-Paced Learning Guide (a free and fun animated guide designed to help newbies make the most of their Treo or Centro smartphone) we get to see [by clicking on the White AT&T GSM Centro image] two other as yet unreleased colors – one Blue and the other White with a silver/white keyboard (below in the middle and left respectively).

Palm Centro Color Range

Since it’s unlikely that either Sprint or AT&T will release either of these two new colors I am left to assume that they are designed for another wireless carrier – according to my sources this will most likely be Verizon Wireless although other (unlikely) rumours have pointed at T-Mobile as a potential candidate as well.

The fact is that the Centro is simply proving to be a mega-bestseller for Palm and carriers just can’t seem to get enough of it.  As I have mentioned previously, the Centro has been reported to be the bestselling phone at Sprint retail stores and early signs are that it has been equally popular in its GSM flavor with AT&T.

While most existing Treonauts will quite rightly still clamour for news of their much anticipated and considerably overdue next generation Treo smartphone (a PalmOS version is due early 2009 and a Windows Mobile Treo 800w in the next couple of months) I am nonetheless thrilled to see that Palm has been able to weather the storm thanks to the success of its Centro – it’s certainly great to see such positive news and hopefully an indication of the “new Palm” that is quietly emerging.

The “Smartphone Revolution” that started with Treonauts but which has lingered in the past year due to a lack of new devices is at least finally regaining some traction for Palm thanks to an entirely new generation of Centronauts who are quickly discovering the joys of using a smartphone every day and everywhere while on the go.

Centronauts are always revolutionaries

I can't wait to see verizon getting the centro. I just hope that they will still honor the price of 99.99 as did AT&T

Andrew,
according to your sources...how soon can we expect the centro coming to Verizon?
I hope these were not the same sources that said the 755 was coming to verizon back in June of 2007.
Just curious...let me know your thoughts. thank you

Knowing Verizon, the Centro will be on their network sometime next year, after Palm releases their first nova based device on Sprint.

Glitch - I very much anticipate Verizon pricing its Centro at $99 as well since this has been one of the major draws to this smartphone.

DM - I'd say that you can expect to see Verizon before the end of Q2 (June). "Things" can always happen but it's evident that Verizon must (for a change) be keen to get its own Centro on the market.

Jack - Things are apparently going to (finally) change and the Verizon Centro will become available sooner than you expect...

Cheers, A.

I am just hoping that someone puts a blank casing out there in white so that I can change my red centro to a white one with no logos. :D

I hope Andrew is right about Verizon getting a Centro before June! That would ROCK! : D

I love the slim form factor. But I honestly have zero interest in a smaller screen for my phone. If anything I want a larger screen.

If you placed Treo's keys at the bottom of the iphone it would still have a larger screen than current treos and would be exactly what I would be looking for. Slim, sleek, and bold.

Andrew, do you know of any future palm offering with a larger screen than the traditional treo?

I am on Verizon as well and have been anxiously anticipating the arrival of the Centro. I have had a 650 and three, yes three 700p's and am completely over that device. I am hoping there are some serious hardware and software changes to the Centro to make it less lacky. Would love to have the smaller form factor too. I played with one on Sprint a few days ago and it really doesn't seem like your missing anything as far as the size goes. The keyboard feels great and the screen size didn't bother me at all. Any new updates Andrew?

you know.. the more i think about this.. an actual Verizon branded Centro.... the more I think it will not happen as much as I want it to.

Simply because there are so many rumors, but not from valid sources. never any 'insider' slips. no photos. the only kind of legit 'rumor' on the web came from an investor pundit that did not work for Verizon and was just speculating about Verizon getting the centro. heck, when the rumors started flying about ATT - pictures even surfaced. and when new colors were rumored for Sprint, photos surfaced... in the case of Verizon, nothing is surfacing.

I have a Google Alert setup for 'Palm Centro Verizon' - and everyday it sends me the latest in any mention on the web, and for months now, nothing but that one pundits speculating comment was of any real value in this area.

Just came out of a Verizon store looking to upgrade my 600 to a 755. Asked for a centro. Salesman said not happening. Salesmane then went to his rebate sheet for 3/31 through 6/15 to find me a better deal than new-for-two, if possible. And there it was: at the bottom of the sheet was a rebate for CENTRO! They must be getting ready to release before 6/15.
