White AT&T Centro With Green Keys?

Following the rumour of a possible AT&T Centro launch this coming Tuesday, February 19 a new image (below right) of this smartphone has appeared that claims to be the “real” thing.

As we had seen with the first AT&T Centro image (above left) back in January it still looks like AT&T’s model will be released in white but the main difference appears to be that the number keys that were previously grey are now a funky shade of Xbox-like green – something that Palm presumably did to enhance its appeal for the younger Centro target audience.

The only thing that I would have preferred is for the letters and numbers on the green keys to be white instead of grey as it makes it harder to read – albeit I’m not sure if this is Palm’s final version.

We’ll have to wait a couple more days to see whether the rumoured Feb. 19 launch date is real but in the meantime I’m already getting excited at the prospect of getting my hands on this very cool looking white-green GSM Centro…

I am a heavy business user of a Treo 680, and welcome the release of the Centro. However, I HATE the white and green. Give me black and silver any day. I hope they offer more, or different colors.

Ned - as with Sprint I have no doubt that Palm will be releasing multiple colors of the AT&T Centro (hopefully dark blue or black).

Cheers, A.

Palm support confirms - CENTRO HAS 3G

Palm posted on February 14th that both Centro and Treo 680 have 3G-UMTS.

Had I really owned the phone almost a year without ever knowing? I doubted it.

I eagerly contacted Palm support to clear out wether this was true or not and spent several hours with my the phone manual, my Danish carrier, google searches and Palm support researching the issue that Gladvin from Palm support - and his boss - convinced me was after all true - Centro and Treo 680 DO have 3G-UTMS. WOW! It was like getting a new phone!

Next day the information was removed from Palm's website and I never found any 3G on the Treo 680.

PalmOS doesn't support true multitasking which means no simultanous voice and data which is a requirement of 3G/UTMS.I would be very doutbful of either the Centro or Treo 680 having 3G/UTMS.

Yes - I was really doubtful too but I was told repeatedly and insistently that my Treo 680 has 3G-UMTS (in palm.com listed it in its specs) and told I was wrong in beleiveing it didn't...

Silly me... after 20 minutes I started believing Palm support ! :( out of hope I guess :)

Saw a "Live" Centro at the ATT Store earlier today. It does indeed have the sickly green keys and the case is white.
The green keys have black lettering (white would be easier to see). The only interesting thing is that voice dialing software is included. I'll keep my Treo650.

I see that the White/green Centro has been added to AT&T's site - disappointing that it is not with a companion in a darker color.

They've stated that an "Obsidian" black version should be available next month.
