Back in February we discovered that a Blue Centro was going to be released by Palm and we suggested that the most likely carrier for this would be Verizon but the months went by without any additional information or leaks to confirm this.

At the beginning of April we then found out that within the world of Centro colors a Blue Centro had indeed been released but that it was destined for carriers Telcel and Movistar in Mexico raising further doubt that a Verizon Centro would be released.

Now the anticipation is over as we _finally_ have confirmation that a Verizon Palm Centro is indeed on the way thanks to an official image (below) which clearly shows the Blue Centro branded with the Verizon logo – just as had been rumoured all along…

Verizo Palm Centro

There’s still no release date announced for this Verizon Centro nor any official statement from Palm but an educated guess is that it may become available by the end of May or beginning of June.  If this is the case the Palm Centro will be the first Palm smartphone in quite a while to become available within a short window across all three of the largest US carriers – Sprint, AT&T and now Verizon.

The Verizon Centro is great news on a number of fronts.  For starters it demonstrates a renewed commitment by Verizon to Palm smartphones (something which has been anything but obvious in recent times) and allows entry to a large number of customers who will finally be able to experience this tiny but powerful device in their pocket.

At the same time Palm will be able to build further on the huge popularity of its Centro (the fastest selling Palm smartphone ever) which has already sold well over 1,000,000 units with Sprint and AT&T alone thanks to its terrific $99 price point, design and functionatily.  My guess is that Palm could very well sell an additional million Centro smartphones just with Verizon before the end of the year – particularly if like the Free Sprint Centro and Free AT&T Centro a Free Verizon Centro also becomes available.

Separately, although the continued success of the Centro certainly doesn’t remedy or excuse the fact that Palm will not release a completely new, next-generation, high-end, enterprise-class smartphone before the beginning of 2009 it nonetheless helps to vindicate the staying power of the Palm OS and the resilience of Palm as a company – they simply won’t go down without a good fight and I have to admit that I rather admire that.

My current Verizon Treo is ready for an upgrade and I really want a Centro.

But I want the cool White/Green one! Why does Verizon end up with the lame blue one?

I've been using the 700P since it came out in 06. Before then the very old M100. Palm OS for me is the easiest to use and the most productive. I got my wife the red Centro(her 1st smart device), and she loves it. I trully hope Palm can make a come back.

What the article doesn't mention is that the Centro is due out for Verizon summer of 2010, after every other carrier has had the next couple of generations of Palm for at least a year and a half.

Just curious why Treonauts is always the last to get the latest scoop...it's always old news by the time it appears on this site. Boygenius & engadget consistently get the scoop. Not a big deal...just wondering...it appears this website is becoming irrelevant...and i hope that is not the case.

Notice the total lack of mention of the data plan pricing? Why do I get the feeling that VZW will still want you to sign up for a $45/month data plan? WTF? The iPhone's been out for a year; you can browse the web 'for real' with it on a $20/month data plan (that includes 200 txt msgs, btw). But VZW, knowing them, will still want to hit you up for $55/month for the same thing...oh, wait - it's NOT the same thing, trying to browse the web on a Treo...

We have used PALMs for years and love the OS, DESKTOP and third-party APPs. BUT THE TREO IS NOT A GOOD 'PHONE: our TREO 750/755/680s CAN NOT GRAB AND HOLD A SIGNAL LIKE OUR BLACKBERRY 8800s, the HEADSET JACKS ARE JUNK, the SPEAKER 'PHONE WEAK AND BUGGY and they are FRAGILE and DIFFICULT TO REPAIR.

I still carry a LifeDrive . . . #5. The other 4 crapped out while under warranty during the first year! AND NOW PALM WILL NOT GIVE US AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO COVER THEIR UNRELIABLE PRODUCTS.

Can PALM build and sell a Centro for $200 that is better and more reliable than a $500 Treo? I doubt it.

HIRE RIMs MANUFACTURER, SELL OUT TO MOTOROLA, FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN BUILD A SOLID HANDSET OR KEEP BUILDING JUNK AND DIE!

The first post here refers to the picture as an "official image"? Says who? You referred to Engadget as the source of the pics but even they do not claim that these are "official" in any way. No one knows if these are advance press prints or if someone "found out" the Centro will be blue so they Photoshopped a Verizon logo onto a Blue Centro. While I am as enthusiastic as the next Palm Addict about a Verizon Centro, you should temper your enthusiasm a bit and be more careful about the claims you make regarding posted information: especially if it is third-hand by the time you post it...

Besides, this was hardly breaking-news by the time it was posted here anyway so why make spectacular claims. Treonauts was two or three days behind everyone else...

For ppl like Marie....trust me you don't want anymore verizon palms. i work for verizon and the palms r not that great....they tend to freeze up a lot and loose all ur data....i highly recommend the blackberry's. they r some of the greatest handsets on the market at this time. The palm phones have the highest churn rate...which is 5 out of 6 sold get brought back....9 out of 10 brough back go to a blackberry and the other's go to a high end phone like a voyager. If anyone has any questions feel free to email me and i can give you more info. Josh B.

I too can't wait for a Centro. I had one briefly with Sprint, but stayed with Verizon. The windows os is bad, unless you like to reset your phone daily. Hurrry!
