Palm Launches "Electric Blue" Centro for AT&T

Palm Lowers Centro Price (Only $69.99) & Releases New Color

Following the launch of the Verizon Centro and white Unlocked Centro (priced at $299) just last month, Palm has now added a new “Electric Blue” color (available to buy this Friday, July 11) to its existing Obsidian Black and Glacier White Palm Centro lineup for AT&T (pictured below).

Electric Blue Palm Centro

This now brings the total number of Centro colors released by Palm for Sprint, AT&T and Verizon to seven – undoubtedly a testament to the popularity and success of this terrific value smartphone which continues to garner the attention and wallets of millions of new “smartphoniacs”.

Talking about value, although Palm has now announced its final pricing revealing that it will be slashing its Centro price even further (making them more affordable than ever) upon release today: Palm has now confirmed that “from July 11 through September 20, ALL Palm Centro smartphones from AT&T will be priced as low as $69.99 after a two-year service agreement and a mail-in rebate”.

Electric Blue Palm Centro

The timing of Palm’s new color and lower pricing is set to coincide with Apple’s iPhone 3G release tomorrow.  The idea is apparently to entice the millions of people that are likely to make their way to AT&T stores over the coming days to consider purchasing the considerably cheaper but full-featured $69 Centro smartphone over the $199/$299 iPhone 3G – a rather smart move on Palm’s part…

The fact is that few people seem to disagree that the Palm Centro is simply the “Best Value Smartphone” on the market today and by pricing it even lower Palm is sure to attract even more fans to its camp.

Talking about fans, although I have to admit that I place relatively little value to what “stars” have to say about how “sexy” the Centro is, the short clip below from Hooman at the 2008 MTV Awards nonetheless has a few moments and does a good job at highlighting the “young and fun” personality of the Centro.

Separately, if you’re looking to add Centro accessories such as a new case or cradle to your existing smartphone kit or are planning to get one soon here is a short list of my top recommendations to help you find what you need in the Centronauts Store:

Do you know of plans for Verizon to have different color options for the Centro?

jst - unfortunately not yet but I have to assume that in due time two more colors would become available for Verizon as well (to refresh the line on an ongoing basis). For now at least don't expect to see new colors there though.

Cheers, A.
