Retractable USB Sync & Charge Cable Review
Bestselling Retractable USB Sync & Charge Cable for Treo & Centro Now Also Available With microUSB for Treo 800w and Treo Pro
As seasoned Treo and Centro owners will undoubtedly already know the SPE Retractable Sync and Charge Cable is not only one of the bestselling accessories for their smartphone but also in my opinion one of the most essential since it’s evident that you won’t be able to go very far if you don’t regularly charge your device or sync it on a regular basis to backup all your precious data.
As you will also know, the latest Palm smartphones such as the Treo 800w and Treo Pro (available to Pre-Order!) now use a standard microUSB connector (pictured above) and therefore older sync and charge accessories will no longer work. Thankfully though, Seidio has now released a new Retractable micro-USB Sync & Charge Cable to replace this and provide one of the most convenient ways to sync and charge your Treo 800w or Treo Pro while on the go.
As you can appreciate from the image above, the main reason that I have always considered my retractable S&C cable to be absolutely essential is simply that it beautifully reduces the bulk and clutter of a traditional cable (above left) while also reducing the weight by a large margin (20 grams instead of 45 grams for a normal cable). There’s also the benefit of using a spare USB port on my laptop to charge my smartphone anywhere I go.
When closed, this retractable accessory measures only 4 inches but once extended (image above) it provides a full 29 inches of cable allowing you to move freely or make calls while your smartphone is still charging your laptop (something that I do frequently when I’m at the office).
Finally, considering that both the existing SPE Retractable Sync and Charge Cable and the new Seidio Retractable micro-USB Sync & Charge Cable are priced at only $12.95 you can hardly find a better value accessory for your smartphone (particularly if you use our coupon below).

According to Antoine Wright's review of the Pro on Brighthand, the voltage is different from previous Treos. He wasn't able to charge the Pro he reviewed from a laptop (using Palm's cable). How does Seidio's cable address this?
I ask because I'm definitely looking for an effective way to charge a Pro when out and about. I'd prefer carrying a spare battery, as it's smaller than a cable and portable USB charger (e.g. Proporta, JavoEdge). That said, availability trumps size, and there's no word yet from Palm or anyone else about a way to charge a spare Pro battery.
Speaking of the Pro's battery, Andrew, would you measure the exact physical dimensions of it? Thanks. That particular detail may be a little too esoteric a detail for most reviews; I'd like to know, though, if I have to rearrange any gear compared to how I've carried a 650 or 680 battery.
