Treo 700wx Updater 1.24
New Verizon Treo 700wx Updater From Palm Finally Provides Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.0 Professional
It’s still a mystery to me why Verizon has been so slow adopting new Treo smartphone models in the last couple of years – particularly as neither the current Treo 800w nor Treo Pro (now available to pre-order) have yet been linked to this carrier.
Considering that Verizon was Palm’s original launch partner for its Windows Mobile smartphones I have to admit that I find it surprising to see how little subsequent support has been given to new devices and I sincerely hope that rumours that Palm is working on a CDMA version of the stunning Treo Pro for both Verizon and Sprint will prove to be true.
Having said this, in the meantime existing Verizon Treo 700wx owners will now at least be happy to learn that thanks to Palm’s latest updater 1.24 they can easily upgrade their existing WM 5.0 operating system to WM 6.0 Professional – a move which provides some significant improvements listed below and includes all fixes and changes from previous updaters as well.

I am waiting a Treo "Pro" ... with a PALM SOFTWARE ONLY....
We are a great lot of Macintosh fans and other Window users loving Palm just Palm with no trace of Window in it.
Hello Palm what are you waiting ? What have you lost on the way ?
Serge - I would also love for this new Treo Pro to have Palm OS (even the old version) but unfortunately we'll have to wait until the release of Palm's new NOVA OS in 2009 before we can expect this.
In the meantime though I have personally found that the combination of ultraslim form-factor + GPS + WiFi + 3G + Flush Touchscreen of the Treo Pro have been enough hardware benefits to convince me to switch to Windows Mobile.
WM is not my preferrred operating system and it took me a little while to get used to but within two short weeks I can already tell you that I just can't bring myself to go back to the Centro.
Cheers, A.
@Andrew:
Why? They might indirectly have you believe "It's the network." Meaning that their vetting process for new devices takes longer, else their precious reliability will be in danger.
Actually, I think they lost their love for Palm when Palm's luster faded. Basically they only throw as many support technicians on the testing phase as they think will score them market points. And to face it: Palm's been seeming like a retro brand that can't (or couldn't) keep up.
There's loyalty among corporations (ah-hem: read as "thieves") for you. Bierce's dictionary entry for them clarifies a lot.
@tiredofwaiting:
Poooooossibly. There may be a few network specific goodies lurking in the Verizon ROM that might not be so good for your own network health. There's always someone eager to try, so you could just wait a month and see who's fool enough to try it first. If they're lucky they'll be someone with the knowhow to unbrick themselves out of a jam if they get stuck (or even just mildly hobbled).
Don't count on Palm for information about that though. They use updates and software as marketing tools. For example, facebook app works fine on my 700p, even though _supposedly_ it never ought to and you "can't" download it for the 700p. It's supposed to be among my incentives to upgrade to a Centro.
I love the update. It enhances the built in bluetooth radio by a longshot. The sound from my bluetooth Sony headphones is so much clearer. Windows mobile 6 is so much faster than 5 on my 'old' phone. No more waiting a long time to transition between applications either. Be sure to back up your calender and contacts before updating, though. The update will take about 30 minutes with a broadband connection. Close as you can get to the Treo Pro, for now.
