It has been a very long time since Palm last produced such a terrific smartphone and to say that I have been completely bowled over would be a rather mild understatement.  As I have mentioned before, the combination of the Treo Pro looks, form-factor and terrific hardware specifications have made me completely fall in love with this smartphone.

Treo Pro Specifications

I can’t remember the last time that I felt this passionate about a Palm smartphone and below you’ll find the top 10 reasons most highly cited by Treonauts in a recent survey (484 responses as of 09/25/08) who are like me finding the Treo Pro not only extremely appealing but also absolutely irresistible:

I would double-check this, I saw the same thing yesterday afternoon, but my order status still said "back-ordered, waiting for inventory" So I called Palm and they said it's a mistake and the website should be updated soon...but then again, that was yesterday and it's still saying In stock, 1-2 bus. days. But my order status still says back ordered :( Pre-ordered on 9/9 about 10 minutes after I got the email from Palm

Thanks for the information Dan - my understanding after speaking with Palm is that the Treo Pro is "ready to go" and that their backend system will be updated to reflect this shortly.

Cheers, A.

Sandisk also released their 16GB Micro SD today, which goes great with this phone - it's about $86 USD

Like Dan, I thought I would have my Treo Pro by now. I finally called the Palm Store to find out that my order was still in processing.... for an order placed and confirmed 09/10/2008? The reason I'm PO'd is that the original confirmation e-mail said "ship by 09/23/08" and because I paid extra for overnight shipping I expected it to be delivered by now. Can you tell I WANT this Treo!!!

Anyway, the customer service rep said that he would "push the order along" and that I should "soon see an update by e-mail". Not a terribly satisfying experience with Palm Store service.

My order status is still at "Special Order: Awaiting inventory"
I am chomping at the bit for some status change - I really need to ditch my old phone and get something more reliable

c'mon Palm! Throw us a bone, pretty please?

Would be nice if Palm would start providing both WinMo and Palm OS options with these new form factors. These days, the grass is always greener on the other side and someone always feels like they got screwed.

Same here, order still listed as back-ordered. Hopefully it is worth the wait, I would have preferred it running the new Palm OS.

i have also orderred and have been getting the run-around from palm reps. i call almost every day. palm took so long to finally have gps and wifi and 3g and 3.5 etc etc. and now they take so long to fulfil their orders from obviously devoted early adopters like us. hopefully they will pick up some new executives who specialize in speeding things up a bit. they did well with the apple execs on style etc. also i agree that all the phones should be available in a palm version as well. us loyal palm user who have supported the software developers should be able to finally get a palm os treo pro or better with all the new connectivity to make the most of opur palm appz etc. get back into the lead palm. push the envelope instead of always playing catch up lately. that being said i still cant wait for my treo pro.

I'm almost tempted to place an additional order to see what happens - would it have the same "waiting for inventory" message? Maybe it would say, shipping soon - ETA 10/1 or something like that

anyone got an extra $500 they'd like to donate for a little experiment? :P

Called Palm again, btw..got the same run around and less info than I did before. Though, he did tell me they've had the Pros in stock since 9/23 and they've been shipping out. I'd be curious to know which group got that batch of inventory - pre-pre-orders? Palm employees? Shareholders?

All this anticipation is giving me a headache

UPDATE: Just received an updated from Palm that my order is in stock ready to ship! Good News!

I just logged into Palm's order status (for the 50th time today), and it said SHIPPED! Clicked the link, it's UPS NextDay Air, even though I only paid for Ground. I also just got a confirmation email. I want to call in tomorrow and wait for it, but I can't! Oh, I just ordered it on the 19th.

I just ordered the Palm Treo on-line yesterday (9/24) fromt he Palm store, and I just received an email from Palm today (9/25), that it has been shipped, and it is on UPS Overnight, even though I chose the free ground shipping, which should take 6-10 days to arrive. Now I'll be getting it by tomorrow. Now is that service or what!!!! I am a happy camper. :)

Update - when I got home, I got an email that my Pro had shipped and should arrive "on or before 10/1". Not bad, mid next week is cool (waited this long, what's another when the end is in sight, right?)

Update 2 - shipment confirmation, upgraded UPS 2nd day to overnight. UPS hasn't updated the tracking info yet, wonder if I'll get it tomorrow 9/26. Oh that'd be sweet :D

I just got the same email from Palm, overnight shipping! Woohoo! I'll definitely be working from home tomorrow.

Same here, ordered on 9/22, original estimate said delivery between 10/13 & 10/24 with Economy Ground Shipping. Tonights update says it'll be here tomorrow via UPS Next Day Air.

@All - thanks to all for the shipping updates. I'm absolutely delighted to hear that Palm not only kept its promise to fix its backend system by the end of the day but also that it didn't brush the matter under the carpet and kindly upgraded many of these shipments to UPS Next Day Air - a very nice move.

Naturally I'm even more interested to hear about your experiences once you get the Treo Pro in your hands so please share your thoughts with your fellow Treonauts and keep posting your comments either here or in the Treo Pro Review post:

I'm still in limbo and getting more ticked as time goes by. I called Customer Service again this morning and got a new answer..." Uhhh sir the order confirmation people will contact you, perhaps about a billing problem". I am still upset about the crappy service (see above.... they lost an on-line order, WTF?) and now this continued run-around only makes it worse.

Why did I bother placing an order on September 10th to have my Treo Pro by now? I am not happy and not sure how to give the Palm Store a piece of my mind. Any suggestions, fellow Treonauts?

There is a god.

Not 15 minutes ago, I recieved an e-mail from Palm saying that my Treo Pro would ship today for Monday delivery. I'll believe it when I see it, but things may be looking better!

Just reading these comments reassures me that my escape from Treo-land is imminent. The HTC Touch Pro may not have much of a personality, but, by God, it's not 100% sure to disappoint me! Trust Palm to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
