There’s no doubt that OtterBox has always designed and manufactured the most rugged Treo Cases and Centro Cases available on the market and their new Defender Series for Treo 800w and Defender Series for Palm Centro are no exception.

The OtterBox Defender Series cases provide three layers of protection starting with a 5mm thick Hi-Impact Polycarbonate body, a thick Silicone Skin and also a clear membrane to protect your screen and keyboard.  This combination will protect your smartphone against drops, bumps and shocks as well as providing complete dust protection while at the same time still giving you convenient access to all buttons, ports, camera, keyboard and screen. 

The relatively unusual and patent-pending design of the OtterBox Defender Series provides a clear membrane (above right) that you simply wrap around your smartphone, a two-part polycarbonate body (above center) into which you place your device and snap it in place as well as the silicone skin that then wraps around the polycarbonate body.

The result of this combination along with the conveniently included holster is a rugged case that I would (almost) feel comfortable dropping on concrete with the knowledge that my smartphone is enclosed in one of the most protective bodies available.

I also particularly like the fact that both the screen and keyboard (detail below) remain perfectly accessible thanks to a low side profile and properly contoured top body.

Finally, the equally well built and designed included holster (with a 360 degree rotating belt clip) makes it convenient to carry your smartphone by your side at all times and to quickly insert and remove it when needed.

Clearly both the Defender Series for Treo 800w and Defender Series for Palm Centro are not designed for the average user but for people in environments (such as construction) that require an ultra-rugged “defensive shield” to protect their smartphone against the most extreme conditions.  In this respect, there’s no doubt that the Defender Series is one of the best solutions that you can find and at only $49.95 it’s actually also extremely good value.
