Sprint Palm Pre Roadmap Leaked

Palm Pre On Schedule For Q2 ‘09 Release By Sprint

Sprint-Palm-Pre-Roadmap

Thanks to a leaked Sprint presentation (slide above) that contains virtually all of the carrier’s device roadmap for 2009 we get to see that the Palm Pre (codenamed here as Palm P100) is due to make its introduction in Q2 2009 along with an HTC Willow that looks awefully similar to the Sprint Treo Pro released this past Sunday.

Sprint-Palm-Pre

Among others the Palm Pre slide above gives us a launch date “TBD Q2 ‘09” which is still within range of the estimated “official” June release window.

Additionally, we get confirmation that the Palm Pre has 8GB user available memory and 256MB of RAM for OS and program memory.  We also note that this slide includes video at 30fps TBD and a 1150mAh battery (which should deliver some 5 hours of Talk Time).

"iPhone Firmware 3.0 = RIP Palm"

i am a diehard iphone user and apple geek and huge fan, however.....adding mms, cut and paste, and turn by turn directions (and 100 new apis for developers) still imo does not kill or even beat or even compare to some of the features that the pre will have. Web synergy, multiple open apps, video capture, unobtrusive notifications, better camera with a flash and i'm sure i'm forgetting some. the pre "web catalog" makes me nervous as it doesnt exist yet compared to thousands of apps for iphone and losing "itunes" isn't giving me a warm fuzzy either. but all in all to say palm is already dead i think is crazy based on what's coming from iphone 3.0

It doesn't matter if Pre is 1000 times better than an iPhone. Because die hard iPhone fanatics will never admit anything is better. Although, I think it's ironic that Apple and its legions of fans are so smug about their iPhone/iTouch/iPod, etc. when they are clearly Microsoft when it comes to handheld or PDA devices. The same Microsoft that has a monopoly on operating systems used in most computers that Apple's Mac is constantly trying to insult in commercials.

Therefore, think Palm when it comes to handheld devices or PDA to Apple. Just like Apple's Macs are to Microsoft's Windows. Who's the bad guy now?

Ah so! iPhone scurries out a couple of upgrades to try and match Pre specs right around the time the Pre is to be released, does not succeed (no Flash, no multi-tasking etc. etc.) and the Pre is pronounced dead! Jeez.

Try 1,000 new API functions and 100 new consumer functions.

Apple arrogance?!? Give me a break.

Arrogance is not releasing anything innovative for 5 years and claiming to be a technology company (Palm). Claiming that Apple can't create a Phone that easily given all the time and experience Palm has in the space. Then having the audacity to take Apple's human capital and duplicate 99% of what the iPhone delivered 2 years prior.

Btw. The Pre won't have video capture. Get your facts right if you wanna talk smack.

Hmmmm.. weird a bunch of iPhone fans come into a Palm news site and post stuff about the iPhone on a news story about the Palm Pre.
Boy sounds like some one is feeling a little threatened by the Pre.. lol!

iPhone Firmware 3... *sarcastic clap* ...EARTH SHATTERING.
Please get a life a realize that there's nothing that special about about your choice of phone and that Steve Jobs only wants you for your money like EVERY OTHER exec out there.
I think the pre will be a nice phone and will consider buying one when my contract is up.

Is Palm Pre compatible with Foleo?

12
by yup | Mar 18, 2009 10:54:50 PM

iphone is flashy, but I have always been seriously turned off by its clumsy touch screen keypad. Looking forward to the pre.

Yep, the Pre is compatible with the Foleo - and same way the iPhone is compatible with the Newton! Moron!

Is Q4 '09 blank because that is when Palm goes out of business?

Pre release keeps pushing back later and later.

Iphone, Blackberry offers new superior updates regularly

Im a long time Palm user, but it looks like they are killing themselves

The iphone Nazis need to take a break. Steve Jobs needs to get a life. A phone 5 years ahead? How stupid do you think I am?

I've been doing stuff for 4+ years on my Treo that the iphone won't do. Not iphone 1.0, not 2.0, not 3.0. #1 on the list? Bluetooth stereo. The iphone is the coolest music device on the planet and won't do bluetooth stereo? What are they smoking?

What about editing Word and Excel? Oh, can't do that either. I understand that many / most people don't need to do that ... but I do.

What about Quicken and having it sync to quicken on my desktop? Oh, can't do that either. And don't even start with me about all the other amazing apps that can do finances on the iphone. I've checked into them and don't think you can get one for the iphone that allows a couple to each sync theirs to the same checking account.

The list goes on: tethering, MMS, cut & paste, physical keyboard, 1 button access to applications, multitasking, etc.

Don't get me wrong ... I'm not an iphone hater. It's a GREAT phone for a LOT of people. But it's not THE phone for everyone. My wife has an iphone and loves it. I'll stick with my Treo until something better comes along or until the iphone is more a prosumer device.

The Pre looks like what I want ... but I'm gonna wait and see. I HAVE to have ereader and still want Quicken and other apps so we'll see if it lives up to the hype.

I am sure when the pre is successfully launched and Palm dodges death, then they will do regular updates to the OS to keep it competetive so that it does not go the route of the original palm OS. They have probably learned their lesson by now.

by Palm scam | Mar 20, 2009 11:55:09 PM

apolog,

The only lesson Palm knows from years of experience is that Palm executives and investment bankers can steal wealth from shareholders year after year with no repercussions and bleed the company dry, milking every penny with no accountability to customers or stockholders, who remain passive like sheep accepting every lie, failure, and deceit handed to them without question.

Palm deserves to fail permanently and forever rest in peace.

I'd go back to writing letters and using pay telephones before I ever use a fracking iPhone.

It should be renamed iMapompousSnob.

Keep guzzling the Apple Flavor Aid, you morons. I think I'll take up programming so I can write the virus that's going to destroy every iPhoney and iMacaroni on the planet.

by oops | Mar 21, 2009 2:54:04 AM

Sucks that the pre doesn't get a microSDHC slot. A major deterrent for me as i like to use the card to store lots of music, pics and movies. I'll probably get the pro instead.

On a sidenote, i find it funny when I see an iphone commercial talking about all these fancy things it can do while even dated treos have been able to do for years. iphone fanatics remind me of that southpark episode about the smug guys who luv to smell their own farts.

I think the pre might be better than the iPhone 3g, however apple is going to announce new iPhone hardware in June. Now things start to heat up.

by Bill | Mar 21, 2009 10:29:09 PM

Hey oops.... How many times a day do people need to reboot their Treos?? iPhones don't require a reboot.

23
by Bryce | Mar 23, 2009 2:43:26 PM

Reboots....can't remember the last time I had to reboot my 755p. My 650 maybe rebooted 3-4 times a year.

24
by debbie | Mar 23, 2009 9:25:22 PM

I have a 3 year old treo 650 and the only time I had to reboot was with some 3rd party software which I then got rid of. You can't blame Palm for 3rd party software. I had some problems after I updated docs to go; it would reboot when I tried to go on it, so I went on docs to go website and found a patch. It works perfectly now.

Why does everybody want their entire cd collection on their phones? I have many cd's but I really only like a couple of the songs on each one. My 1 gig sd card is only half full.

Battery life is the main reason I would not consider using my phone as an Ipod. Get Pandora if music is an issue.....just carry a charger around with you.
